4 Reasons I Deep Condition to Get Back to Healthy Hair #HealthyHairMonth

4 Reasons I Deep Condition to Get Back to Healthy Hair #HealthyHairMonth

Beautiful Textures and BET are celebrating July is Healthy Hair month which is the perfect time for me to get my hair back to it’s optimal state because my hair has changed and not for the better! Over the past year, my hair started doing something different. It was shedding, thinning and dare I say coming out. I wasn’t doing anything different, but I did have to sit back and see if my lifestyle changed – which can have a major effect on your hair.

I started wearing more protective styles hoping that it would take the strain off of my hair, but honestly I don’t think that it’s made a difference. It still shed and looked just as crazy when I took down the braids from my protective style. In addition to that, I had also stop breastfeeding my son, which also could have contributed to the slow change in my hair.

I have come to the conclusion that besides stress and other things, I was neglecting my hair and basically taking it for granted. All the things I did in the beginning of my natural hair journey, I somehow stopped doing and my hair started to let me know.

Deep Condition to the Rescue…

To get my hair back on track, I believe I needed to start from the foundation of healthy hair. I needed to start deep conditioning my hair again. I literally couldn’t tell you the last time I deep conditioned my hair. My hair was so dry and it was literally breaking off.

4 Reasons You Should Deep Condition:

  1. Reverse damage from heat – Deep conditioning weekly will restore damage from curling, blow drying, etc.
  2. Treat dry hair – Frizzy, brittle hair is a sign of dry hair and will result in hair loss.
  3. Keep color from fading – Deep conditioning will help keep your color vibrant.
  4. Moisturized hair – When your hair is dry, it will be brittle and break off. A deep condition will allow your hair to retain moisture and subtle.

I washed my hair last week and tried Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner by Beautiful Textures. I left it on for about 20 minutes with a plastic bag and my results were wonderful. My hair was soft and manageable. My hair felt very moisturized, something that I’d hadn’t experienced in months. It immediately made me wish I had been doing this more often and I made a personal goal to start back doing weekly deep condition treatments.

Afterwards, I twisted my hair with the Moisture Butter Whip Curl Crème. My hair was so soft the next day; I couldn’t keep my hands off of it. But honestly, I didn’t like my twist out. It wasn’t the product, it was the way I twisted it. My twist out always looks like a dry wet and go. I think that’s just the way the texture of my hair is. I ended up wearing my twist out as a short afro.

The next day, I added more Moisture Butter Whip Curl Crème to my hair and did two big twist going down the side of my hair. It’s quick, easy and the look goes with everything. I also used it on my daughter’s hair for church. I finger styled her hair with a cute puffball. I needed to stretch her hair and it worked perfect in addition to softening her hair.

I plan to use the Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner once a week to nourish and condition my hair to get back on track and restore it’s moisture. In between those wash days, I will go back and forth between twist and braid styles to keep my ends protected from day to day pull and tears.

On the Road to Healthy Hair

I am looking forward to getting my hair back on track. I know what healthy hair looks like because I used to have a head full of it. I let the needs of day to day life get in the way of taking care of hair. I am glad that I was able to try a product that allowed me to see immediate results and I can also use on my daughters hair.
