Happy Birthday hubs!
My husband turned 44 (wow, I can’t believe I just typed that!) last week. He never asks us for any gifts or special event for his birthday. Most times his response is, “What do you want to do?”
This year, I was given the opportunity through Best Buy to try the new LG Watch W7 Smartwatch and it was delivered right before my husband’s birthday. He had no idea he was getting such an innovative gift and was very surprised.
He immediately went into research mode to learn everything about this watch and how to best use it in his day-to-day life. Over the last 7 days, he’s been wearing it and there are a few features he really enjoys.
Normal on the outside but …
watch, the more it reminds me of his personality. On the outside, Earl is a nice, fashionable and handsome man. It’s when you sit and get to know him that you find out how even more special he is on the inside. Just like this watch!
The LG Watch W7 Smartwatch is beautiful to look at. It looks natural and the physical hands are a great compliment to the aesthetic. It also has the ability to change it’s background behind the physical hands, for an even more stylish feel.
The $450 LG Watch W7 combines an analog watch’s gearbox with the functionality of a smartwatch. It’s a hybrid Wear OS smartwatch that blends a display and an analog watch, with real watch hands.
Works with Samsung
I was worried that Earl wouldn’t be able to use the watch the way it was originally intended because he has a Samsung and the watch is an LG. However, he was able to download the app to his phone and the two products work well together. He is able to use the touchscreen on his new LG W7 Smartwatch to scroll through his emails, text and handle phone calls from me.
The Elephant in the Room – Battery Life?
LG says the Watch W7 will last two days in smartwatch mode. If you disable those smart features by activating Watch Mode, the W7 will last 100 days.
LG made some other sacrifices to get its smartwatch to last longer: The Watch W7 doesn’t have a heart rate monitor, or GPS, or LTE connectivity, or an NFC chip for mobile payments.
Working and Working Out
I love that my husband believes in taking care of himself through eating healthy and exercise. It was an added benefit that the LG Watch W7 came with fitness tracking features that allow him to make the most of his workouts. It also comes with Google Assistant which means he doesn’t have to miss any appointment on his calendar when he’s not near his computer or phone.
The Physical Hands & Text Messages
Earl learned the hard way that reading text could be a challenge because of the watches physical hands would get in the way. Who knows there is always a shortcut or workaround?
So, how do you read text on a smartwatch that has mechanical hands layered on top of its touch-screen face? LG has come up with a creative work-around. Pressing the watch’s top side button moves the entire display upward, and not just the text. The whole screen beneath the glass moves toward the top of the device so you can view it more easily.
The W7’s hands use a unique feature called Master Tools. Press the bottom side button and choose from a menu of options that will make use of the hands, including compass, stopwatch, timer, barometer and altimeter which helps you get the best outside experience with this watch.
