Win 1 of 3 Gas Cards & Learn 5 Tips to Help Your Pocket at the Pump this Summer

Memorial Day weekend is approaching and it’s time to hit the road. Toyota has teamed up with automotive industry expert Jeff Fortson to help make holiday travel more fuel-efficient.

“Drivers can take simple steps to help them get the most gas mileage on their trips this Memorial Day weekend,” says Fortson, founder and editor of, a site dedicated to auto education and car-buying clinics. “Taking heed to these tips will not only lead to fuel savings but will help provide a little extra money once you arrive at your destination.”

Toyota and Fortson offer six fuel-efficiency tips designed to help protect your pocket at the pump before you start a memorable road trip with family and friends.

  • Use the cruise control (and the optional radar-activated cruise control system) for holiday road trips. Both systems minimize sudden acceleration and de-acceleration. According to, speeding, rapid acceleration and braking can decrease gas mileage by 33 percent.
  • Be sure to check and properly inflate each tire, including the spare before you set out on a trip. Gas mileage can be improved if tires have adequate pressure. Some vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure monitor system which alerts you when it detects tire pressure is critically low. If the car isn’t equipped with this system, a tire gauge can be purchased at the local parts store and the service department can check the air pressure.
  • Rent a fuel-efficient vehicle. If you are renting a car, you may want to consider a hybrid vehicle, such as Prius or Prius V.
  • Use the factory installed navigation system or a favorite app from your smartphone. These navigation systems will alert drivers of traffic congestion and provide you with the shortest route to your destination.
  • Always pack smart. Just like flying, you should only take necessary items for a road trip. Avoid using the roof rack, if possible, because it reduces the aerodynamics and decreases fuel efficiency.

Bonus Tip

  • Watch the A/C. It is recommended that you use the air conditioner when driving highway speeds. When driving in stop-and-go traffic, turn the air conditioner off and allow air to circulate through the vehicle.

[Video] Toyota Rav4 2015 Review and Road Trips!

Summer is the time for holidays, family reunions and road trips! In the last couple of months we were able to experience all three. Just a couple of weeks ago, we drove down to Florida for my husband’s family reunion.

Here’s a quick 3 minute video about our experience in the Rav4!

It’s a time where we get to see family we don’t see often, see how all the babies have grown and have a great time. My favorite time is dinner, because his family can cook and eat! Everyone crowds around and you have to get in where you fit in!

Rav 1

This year we were lucky enough to enjoy the Toyota Rav4 2015 on this road trip, family reunion and the 4th of July! We spent the reunion at Lake Louisa, which was a camping ground. We stayed in cabins with no tv’s or wifi!

Although on Saturday, I called Sprint to get a hotspot because I had to see POWER! (My new addiction!)

Rav 4

During our road trip, we saved so much money on gas with the 2015 Rav4 and were able to get at least 25 mpg. Once we were in Florida we paid $17 to fill the tank up! Yes, $17!

In Florida, 90 degree weather is almost an every day occurrence, so blasting the air was an automatic feature we had to have. It flowed effortlessly as we hopped in and out of the car running errands.

Rav 5

When you have peace with your transportation, you can relax and enjoy the real reason we are there; family time! We were able to get up early and fish one morning and my daughter actually snagged an alligator. It was a baby, but still!

Rav 2

Riding in the Rav4 allowed us to take our mind off of the road and enjoy family time. Here are a few features that we enjoyed on our trip:

  • Dual Screen Functions | meaning we had the GPS on, while searching for Sirus XM radio. (3 Months of Satellite provided for new owners too!)
  • Remote-less key entry | we got out of the car so much, and only having to have the keys around me made it easier to start and hit the road.
  • USB Connection | I am so tired of having to look for a charger! Now I just needed my cord and I was good to go!
  • Rear view camera | My husband says I can’t drive without my mirrors, but the camera helps me out too because I like to back in my parking spaces.
  • Eco Drive Option | It allows you to use less gas which means more money in your pocket.
  • Blindside option | The Rav4 displays a light when a car is on your blind spot.

Rav4 review

The Rav4 2015 ranges from $24K – $29K depending on which edition is best for you.

As you can tell, with all these features that we were able to enjoy our road experience and make new memories? Could you see yourself in a Rav4?

(Review) Winter Car Preparation in the Toyota 2015 Yaris #HolidayPrep

toyota yaris

Thanks to Toyota I was able to test out this 2015 Toyota Yaris but all opinions expressed here are 100% my own!

Living in Hotlanta, it’s so easy to forget during those long hot humid Summer months, that Winter is coming. Toyota was so kind to let me drive their 2015 Yaris for a week, not only to prepare (#HolidayPrep) for the New Year & my Birthday, but to explain to you how to get your car properly ready for the winter!

Last year, Atlanta was on the national news because of 2 inches of snow and ice. Thousands were stranded in the highways, streets and neighborhoods for hours. We stayed off the road for days and personally took a vow, not to let it be us stuck on the road this year!

The 2015 Toyota Yaris made me feel single again! Being a married mother of three, the Yaris, gave me a great excuse to do a BFF get-away! That was a great reason for my best friend, Aseelah, and I to hit the road like Thelma & Louise!

Over the week, I went to work, hit the thrift stores, skated with the kids, attended Church service for New Years Eve, danced all night at the Delta Sigma Theta Gala, laughed all night at Uptown Comedy Club for my birthday & celebrated Aseelah’s birthday too! We lived! We hit the streets!

How did the Yaris handle Me and the Bestie?

  • Small is the new big! The Yaris allowed us to get in and out quickly while on the road. It hugged the road and allowed me to bob and weave with ease.
  • Saved money on GAS! It’s 32 mpg and literally filled up with $19 ($2.15 a gallon).  We both sat in amazed silence!

The Unexpected Arctic Freeze

While Aseelah was here, the weather was lovely. The news soon started warning us that single digit weather was coming soon. My husband went down a checklist of things to do, to make sure your car is Winter Ready:

  • Make sure the battery is ready to go. The cold weather is tough on batteries.

  • Check the tire pressure and tread levels. Driving in tough conditions is made worse with worn tires.
  • Make sure your defroster is working properly.

  • Put new antifreeze in the cooling system.
  • Check the wiper blades and washer fluid. You might need cold weather washer fluid and winter wiper blades.

  • Have the brakes checked. Patches of black ice can start forming at 37 degrees.
  • Check to see that headlights are aimed properly and that brake lights work.

So, Let’s Learn More about the 2015 Yaris!

The 2015 has been revamped by Toyota and totes a price tag of only $16,770 – $18,445! I told you before I was able to get a full tank with $19, and that’s because it has an EPA of 30/36 mpg.

Some of the features include:

  • 3 or 5 door hatchback four speed, four cylinder engine.
  • It sports a modern look inside and out.
  • Inside mounted spare tire
  • Bluetooth wireless data link for hands-free phone

Riding around with Aseelah in the Yaris made me feel care free! I also feel fully prepared for the winter with my vehicle prepped for the cold frigid temperatures. If you would like more information about features and how to possibly test drive one for you or a family member, visit
