My 2016 Mid Year Recap Shared through 21 Instagram Pics

disney_chewbacca dsmm

I started this year out believing it would be an amazing year. I wrote my list of things I wanted to happen and have a big smile on my face as many of those have things come to pass plus a few unexpected surprises!

First, let me share with you my post from earlier this year where I explain 6 big things I am doing for ME in 2016

  1. Consistent exercise
  2. Regular facials
  3. Saying YES to amazing Opportunities
  4. Believing 2016 will be my most successful year to date
  5. Opening myself up to more genuine friends
  6. Saying NO and not feeling guilty

Now this list above is what I was doing for ME. I had a separate list of goals which is too much to write here. However, I will share some highlights of 2016 below.

Many people do an end of the year review, but when I sit back at the mid point of 2016 – I am grateful for how this year is going. Let’s look at my year in terms of Instagram:

I brought in the year with my husband and children at church.

My birthday is not far behind New Years Eve, so I was so grateful my husband planned a dinner party with my friends!

I launched a T-Shirt Company (One Dream Tees) and this is my best seller, but I will be selling it on a new site soon.

My first speaking opportunity in 2016 was for a Virtual Conference.

My wish came true when my husband got me a physical trainer! I loved every minute of it! I worked with him for 4 months. #bodytight

This is a picture of my father, brother & I. We haven’t been in the same place in about 15 years. We all got together for lunch in Chicago. My dad thought he would never have that experience.

I was a featured front runner for a local event (The Beautiful Mile) here in Atlanta supporting women of all shapes and sizes.

My second speaking opportunity for 2016 was the HerStory Empowerment.

And here comes snapchat! Do you snap? I love it! So much fun!

I met the living legend herself, MC Lyte, at the Hispanicize Conference in Miami in April. This conference was also a game changer!

My first on screen news presentation. I spoke about how to keep your car clean on road trips.

I was featured in Ebony magazine (May Edition) on a Family Dollar ad!!

My first article on Huffington Post was published! It was about my talk with my daughter regarding men and what’s not appropriate.

We were invited to our first Disney Social Media Moms conference! Talk about being treated like VIP! I won two big contest while I was there too!

I met JUDY at Disney! She was an attendee at the same conference. Judy is a big deal on Youtube and she was so down to earth. She put me on her youtube channel too! Yayyy Judy!! (press play)

I was given an opportunity to be a social media correspondent for Steve Harvey’s Act Like a Success conference in Atlanta.

Oh! And I met Steve Harvey for a 2nd time!

My 3rd speaking opportunity allowed me to be on a parent panel for the season premier of Growing Up McGee with some great people.

I was given an opportunity to try alternative skin care options outside of creams and massages. I love my results. (press play)

I am always open to trying new things, so we took a 2 day trip to the cabins and did some white water rafting & horseback riding.

Featured in another magazine!! July’s issue of Hype Hair for a Family Dollar ad.

My 4th and biggest speaking engagement to day was this past weekend. I was a workshop speaker for their Pay if Forward Academy. My topic was beauty from the inside out. (press play)

As I was writing this post and going through these Instagram pictures, I realized I forgot about some of these things. I also didn’t share everything.

*One other thing that happened was I received my Life Coach Certification. I am so excited about what’s to come in that area of my life. I’ve started working with clients and it’s amazing the feeling you get when you help someone go from where they are, to where they desire to be.

The first part of 2016 has been amazing, I can’t deny that. The second part of 2016, I will be living in a new state, so I am looking forward to how life will be. A new state means new friends, experiences, schools, doctors and basically everything that comes with a new move.

Outside of the move to a new state, I do have some new things coming out that I plan to share soon. So stay tuned!

How is your 2016 going so far?

8 Powerful Lessons by 8 Powerful Act Like A Success Speakers

“I have partnered with Purpose Driven Media and am a member of the Act Like a Success Blogger Team. They provided me with compensation for this event coverage. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.”

The Act Like a Success Conference has ended but the real work now begins.

I was fortunate to attend every day of this conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel (May 13-15) and left feeling motivated & empowered.

What’s more important than being motivated & empowered is responsible. I am responsible for my success and it’s time to Do The WORK!

act like a success

Over the weekend, speaker after speaker, session after session gave you nuggets to push you to the next level if you were open to receiving it.

Honestly, I had SO MANY takeaways that you will easily see a few more post that come out of the many lessons that I received this weekend.

Act Like a Success_Social Media

I was apart of a great social media team who shared many takeaways via twitter and live stream. Follow #ALAS2016 on IG & Twitter to catch up.

Here are 8 Powerful Lessons by 8 Powerful Speakers:

1. Doreen Rainey asked us to write down our BIG DREAM and made us recognize 5 reasons it never happens.

  1. Fear of the big dream.
  2. Unsure the reality of what it really takes.
  3. No actionable plan.
  4. No real support system.
  5. Unwilling to pay the price.

2. Rhonda Britton – Founder of Fearless Living Institute taught us about the power of FEAR.

My biggest take away from Rhonda is that “Fear is a great motivator but it will never let you be satisfied.”

There are 4 Zones:

  • Comfort Zone – what you know
  • Stretch – what you know you can do but just haven’t done
  • Risk – you’re afraid to do / you feel like you will almost die
  • Die – totally out there!

Rhonda Britten

Of course your comfort zone is in the middle of the circle and before you go to the next zone, there is always a ring of fear. Fear is designed to protect us & triggered by the unknown.

“The feeling you are afraid to feel is running your life.” Rhonda Britten

3. Patrice Washington the Money Maven’s message for this weekend was be authentically you with 5 powerful ways to do this.

Patrice Washington

  1. Never compete (comparison is the thief of joy).
  2. Meditate (silence is golden).
  3. Use visuals (vision boards can stimulate your goals).
  4. Affirm yourself (speak life/positive words into your life).
  5. Trust yourself (no matter what advice you get, trust your gut and your God).

4. Teneshia Jackson Warner is the creator of The Dream Project. She reminds me of myself because she is a big dreamer and her life story gives a true example that the fortune is in the follow up. She was finally given a life changing opportunity to work for Russell Simmons after telling him numerous times, “I am willing to work for you with no fee, in exchange for an opportunity to learn.”

She explained that you shouldn’t wait for your dream to manifest, but start living your dream now. For example, if you want to be a best selling author you have to start writing. Just write.

“God can make miracles with our imperfections!”

5. Beth Caldwell taught us 5 Tips to Get Paid What You are Worth

  1. People price based on their cost versus their value. Make a list of your values.
  2. Stop giving away your services (Grow your list).
  3. Count your money.
  4. Get comfortable with big numbers.
  5. Be who you were meant to be.

If you are an entrepreneur, learn to offer at least 3 packages because more than 3 can be overwhelming. Do not give anyone anything for free unless you want to volunteer.

6. Nicole Roberts Jones is a Life Coach who taught us how to Unleash Your Inner Gladiator.

Nicole Roberts Act like a success

  1. Master your gift.
  2. Understand your gift is not for you.
  3. Be committed to your gift, not just interested in your gift.

7. Dr. Steve Harvey, entrepreneur extratronaire gave us a power exercise to weed people out and see who is actually for us.

  1. Make a list of everyone you come in contact with.
  2. Go down the list and use a checkmark, dot or star.
    1. Checkmark – anyone that always gives you love, supports you, full of good news and is always encouraging.
    2. Star – sometimey people. Sometimes they are cool, sometimes they aren’t. If you can live without them, give them a star.
    3. Dot – negative, filled with drama & always want something. They always bring the worst news.
  3. People that are Dots; take them out of your phone & life, NOW! The people that are stars, you need to decide if you want them in or out of your life. You can tell them how you feel about it and let them decide by their behavior if they should stay or not. The Checkmarks are your tribe. These people support you and hold you up! This is your tribe.

act like a success

8. Gerald Washington, President of Steve Harvey Entertainment spoke to us and had us in a holy hush! His introduction was so amazing, we all were on the edge of our seats waiting for him to speak. He taught on 3 things that successfully help him transition from a manager position at Taco Bell making $8.62 in 2011 to the President of Steve Harvey Entertainment & a millionaire.

  1. Rewrite your vision – give yourself permission to change.
  2. How do you plan to execute? Identify your blueprint. Your life & business needs a plan. Who is on your team? Remove your pride and open yourself up for support. Invest in yourself & your dreams.
  3. Get down, dirty & DO THE WORK.

I am telling you, this conference was amazing. There was no way you could leave Act Like a Success and not want to be a Success in every area of your life.

In addition to the conference, Steve & his team gives you a way to stay connected with his team through emails and other courses to further your development. He gives us no excuse not to be our best.

My First TV News Segment Appearance on WGXA TV

WGXA TV Macon Diono

My cell phone alarm was set for 3:40 am.

My night stand alarm was set for 3:50am, but I was up at 3:30am. You can call it nerves or excitement, either way I was not missing my opportunity to do my TV News Segment this morning.

WGXA TV Macon is 1 hour and 36 minutes away, so we were on the road pretty early, because my call time was 6:20am. We were welcomed with smiling faces as they quickly prepped me for my segment, clipped my mic, and told me where I would be standing.

This is it! I am about to go LIVE. There are no retakes. One shot is all you’ve got!

3 Great Products to Help You Keep Your Car Clean

Spring Break for us was last week and Summer vacation is almost here. That means road trips in and out of the city. With 3 children, it’s easy for your car to get dirty if you:

  • Don’t set rules for the children
  • Let them eat in the car
  • Don’t give the children alternatives to purposely dirtying the car

Diono USA is known for creating car seats, storage containers & travel accessories that are consistently given high marks by experts and families worldwide.

They’ve won numerous awards for their innovation, safety and design. Here are three of the travel accessories I had the pleasure of presenting on camera.

Travel Pal $10.60: Designed to keep books and toys neat and organized. It has a deep cargo bin for toys and lots of pockets for smaller things, too. It also has insulated drink holders and the entire cargo area is waterproof – just in case. Travel Pal fits between two child car seats and it’s big enough to hold everything for both children.

Diono Travel Bin_Pop Up Trash Can_Stuff 'n Scruff

Pop Up Car Garbage Can $5: This collapsible storage bin pops open when needed for those extra toys or for trash. The drawstring top keeps items secure. Water resistant fabric. Collapses flat for storage and travel. 7” W x 8” H. Takes Bag It disposable trash bags (not included).

Stuff ‘n Scuff: This features washable, waterproof fabric to keep mud and dirt off the back of your vehicle’s seat. The pop open design maintains its shape providing full seat protection. The large cargo pocket holds everything. Fastens easily around any headrest and the adjustable lower tab secures it in place. Folds for easy storage in seat back pocket.

How I Felt After My Segment!

I felt like a rock star! I believe I knocked the segment out of the park, especially being that I didn’t have the products in hand. Can I tell you a little secret? The products were supposed to be shipped to the station but no one in the studio could find them!

Thanks to quick thinking from the staff, we grabbed some images of the products and completed the segment!

Honestly, I would love to do this again. So I am putting this in the universe! I want more opportunities to showcase more products and spread the word about things that make life easier on TV!

So, now for the big question . . . How did I do?

One Quick Exercise to Answer the Question, “What Makes Me Happy?”

How to get to your happy spot

Many people ask themselves the question… “What should I be doing?”, “What really makes me happy?” and/or  “What is my passion?”

Unfortunately, this post may not answer these questions, but I have an exercise, that I participated in a few days ago, that will help you get very close.

However, the older I get, the more important I realized how important my journey is.

The journey of life.

Last week, I watched a video where Oprah said, “Stop wasting time! Stop acting like you have all the time in the world! You have a limited time to do what you desire to do, start now!”

She is right. Time is of the essence and we deserve to be happy, but sometimes we need a push to actually see what makes us happy.

How to Find Your Happy Spot:

  1. List your top 3 favorite jobs you’ve had over your life and explain why?
  2. Or list your top 3 life experiences you’ve had and why?

When I was asked to do this, I couldn’t list 3 jobs that I actually “Loved” over my lifetime. I was able to mention one job. I worked with the U.S. Census in 2010 and loved it.

I loved it because:

  • I worked from home & made my own schedule.
  • I believed in the purpose of the census so it was very easy for me to present the information.
  • I traveled around the State of Georgia doing presentations for Mayors, City Councilman, School Principals, and Community Leaders about why the census is important & how to get their team involved.
  • I saw my boss a few times a week & she trusted me to do my job (no micromanagement).

It’s so sad that I’ve been working since I was 14 and besides working with the census, I’ve never had a job that I can say I actually LOVED.

So, I selected 3 experiences that I loved:

  • Visiting the White House as a Social Media Correspondent to cover an event.
  • Sitting 10 feet from Oprah at the Live Your Life tour as media.
  • Having the opportunity to work with BMWK (top relationship site for African Americans).

What is the common theme in all of these experiences and job? Can you guess?

It is communication.

It was pointed out to me that I enjoy communicating. I enjoy & light up when I present information via writing, video, and/or presentations. Also, all these experiences that I loved were because of the way I communicated.

Fun fact: I majored in Communication when I went to college. I changed it to Marketing based off of bad research. This is one of my many regrets!

I was excited to learn that communication & helping people is my happy spot.

Will I use it to further my blog business? Will I now look for a job where I can apply the skills that bring a smile to my face? It doesn’t matter, as long as I use this information to continue to bring joy in my life in some form.

Now that I see the common thread of what brings me joy, I will be intentional going forward with the projects I accept.

Is your happy spot your passion? That is a question only you can answer.

Bloggers Get Tired Too! 3 Reasons Why I Stopped Writing

Bloggers Get Tired too!

I’m not sure if you noticed or not (probably because I still post on social media) but I’ve written less on my blog since January 2016.

In Decemeber 2015, I had BIG GOALS for I just knew as soon as these kids went back to school, I was going to hit the ground running.

January came and went.

February came and went.

March, well … it’s now April.

I’ve written posts, but most were sponsored. Sponsored means; I was sent a product or attended an event to review. Sponsored also means “coins” sometimes, so yeah, I’m going to write those.

It’s just that when it came to a personal heartfelt post, I just couldn’t bring myself to write. When I sat and thought about it, I came up with three reasons:

I’ve been blogging since 2010! Yes, my first blog was WIFE (Why Isn’t Forever Easy), which focused on wife life and marriage (which is still up btw). I created in 2012 to widen my blog topics & its been an amazing ride.

But, I have just been uninspired. I will sit and look out the window thinking, what can I talk about? Or, worse – I do not feel like writing today or apparently this month. In addition to not feeling inspired to write, I’ve been living life.

Being a mom of three is a 24 hour job and motherhood never stops. My children stay involved in sports year round. Which means; practice, rehearsals, meets & more. We are active at their school (classroom volunteer) and do many things as a family.

So, motherhood doesn’t stop. Apparently, wife life doesn’t either because my husband will give me the side eye if he doesn’t get him some attention!

He actually likes being around me. Although he runs his own business, he will ask me out for a day date or plan a surprise outing to keep me on my toes.

New Ventures.

I am currently getting my life coach certification which also leaves little time for other things. It’s a 2.5 month process and I am loving it so far. With any new venture, there comes hard work, homework and more. My class is not just sit and listen. I literally have to coach people, read 2 books, listen to audio, do worksheets, and whatever else my instructor asks for on a weekly basis. I am half way through my certification and so far, so great.

It feels so right.

I’ve always motivated people to do more but, now I can do strategize from a professional standpoint!

Oh yeah, we’re moving out of Georgia this year too! So, of course that is on my mind. More details on that to come.

Blogging is More than Writing.

If you’re a blogger, then you already know that blogging is 50% of the pie. The other 50% is promotion. I wish it were as easy as writing a compelling post and then hitting enter.

“If you publish, they will come!”

Wrong! Just plain wrong!

You must publish, promote on every social media channel, engage readers, comment on other blogs to let them know you’ve stopped by, shared a few other post, craft an email for your subscribers, and promote some more! Whewwww!

You have to let people know you are there. With thousands a blog post that are published daily, you have to do your part to make sure you’re seen.

And, sometimes you just get tired.

I would not say I am burned out, because I’ve been there before. This isn’t that. I’ve still been working on other things. I think I just needed a break to LIVE LIFE more, create new experiences to actually write about, and understand this is my journey. I’m not in a competition with other bloggers who post daily or weekly.

My journey, my timeline.

April 1st 2016, I ready to write again.

What will I write about?

My family. My son is into girls more than ever and we have really needed to calm him down. A mom even pulled me over to tell me my son asked her daughter out! My daughter now has glasses and it was a process of elimination of how we found out that she needed them!

My 3 year old knows his letters, numbers, shapes, colors, etc. His favorite book is Brown Bear, Brown Bear … but, I have some news to share about a learning program that will give you lifetime learning access for toddlers.

My marriage. My husband and I are in a good place. Thank God! One thing that I love is that he wants to do the work to keep our marriage that way. I will share some things he has done to keep me smiling.

My motivation. I believe your words create your world. I really try to be intentional in my speech. I will create more posts that show you how to master your mindset.

Have you signed up for my newsletter? Maybe it’s time. Just click the link below.

Do you ever just get tired and need to regroup? Do you feel guilty?

5 Reasons Attending the 2016 Act Like a Success Conference will Positively Impact your Life

I am a member of the Act Like a Success Blogger Team. I have been provided with compensation for this event. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I personally don’t know anyone who hasn’t heard of the book Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success by Steve Harvey! This best selling book has motivated many people to look at their life differently and go forward towards pursuing their passions and dreams.

Last year, I attended the Act Like a Success Conference in the Washington D.C. area. I left with major motivation & steps I could implement, in my life and/or career.

I honestly thought I was going to meet Steve Harvey there and tell him all my dreams! That didn’t happen but a few months later, I not only met him – I interviewed him for an Atlanta event!

It all worked out!

When I learned that Steve Harvey was bringing the Act Like a Success Conference 2016 to Atlanta (#ALAS2016) May 13th-15th, I was overjoyed and I knew I wanted to be apart of this again.

The information he has is too impactful to miss out on.

5 Reasons Attending the 2016 Act Like a Success Conference will Positively Impact your Life:

1 Take the Lid off of Your Jar – No one can motivate you like Steve Harvey when it comes to unleashing your potential and taking the limitations off. When you take the lid off, you allow your dreams to be unlimited.

Many times, the lid is a barrier we put on ourselves. Once we can get past the fact we can go as high as our imagination will let us, the sky is the limit.

2. World Class Speakers – The Act Like a Success Conference doesn’t hesitate to bring in the heavy hitters when it comes to people who they select to impart nuggets into your life. These speakers are transparent about their journey’s and you feel like you are being mentored from the stage.

3. Learning Your Gift – Steve Harvey speaks a lot about your gift. In so many words, it is not what you are paid for but what you were made for. Even the bible says, “Your Gift will make room for you.” [Proverbs 18:16] When you figure out your gift, you can figure out how to best use your gift for maximum impact.

4. More New Friends – One big benefit in attending conferences is you meet like minded people. We’re all trying to recognize how to best use our gifts and create the life we desire. Meeting new friends means possibly new accountability partners, business partners, mentors, corporate connections and more.

Always try to meet new people and not stay to yourself. Say hello to who is sitting next to you and learn about who they & are what they are expecting to get out of this conference. You could very well help them and vice versa.

5. Life’s Magical Balance – The Act Like a Success Conference focuses on many areas of our day to day life; finances, health, self-care, entrepreneurship, career, and relationships. Which means, you don’t just have to own a business or desire to push your career. You can attend no matter where you are in your life, but be open to learning new things and possibility doing some things differently.

Would you like to meet me there? How about meeting me there for FREE?

3 Questions with Tyrese About Coca-Cola Pay it Forward & 1 HUGE Exclusive!

Tyrese Pay it forward

Who could forget the 1996 commercial when Tyrese walked his fine self on that bus and belted out, “Nah nah nah … always Coca-colaaaaaa!” with the biggest smile?

Can you honestly say that you weren’t walking around with your headphones trying to hum that tune?

Over the years, Tyrese would become a six-time grammy nominated R&B singer, author, philanthropist and an internationally renowned film star.

Tyrese has really come full circle in 20 years as he now joins the Coca-Cola Pay it Forward Academy as their 2016 Ambassador.

This program (now in it’s 5th year) offers 25 high school students a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship to help further their education & a trip to the Coca-Cola Pay it Forward Academy. For the full details & application please visit through March 31st.

3 Questions for Tyrese:

Recently, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime – to interview Tyrese about the Coca-Cola Pay it Forward Academy!

Not only did he give us an abundance of tweetables, but he gave us an exclusive that no one else knows … until now!

1. Does being a parent inspire your work with kids?

I have long recognized the importance of helping young people reach out to grab their dreams.

Returning to Coca-Cola, the place where I got my start, brings my story full circle and offers me another opportunity to help inspire, motivate and give back to our youth.

I’ve learned it’s not lonely at the top if you help someone else get there.

2. What motivates you to be involved in so many projects?

Most people can’t keep up with me. People that I hire to work with me, can’t even keep up with me. I’m focused and my drive is a burning desire inside of me.

I feel I even have to earn my sleep. When I go to bed, I want to feel like I’ve done everything I could that day so when I fall in my bed, it’s nothing left.

I don’t worry about staying in my lane, when I am a lane creator!

3. Do you feel your ambassadorship is a form of mentoring? And who has been a mentor for you along the way.

I’ve been mentored by many people over the years. I’ve also had experiences that I didn’t allow to keep me stuck when I was growing up.

At some point you have to be a champion for yourself and get tired of being tired and stick up for yourself. More people need to take advantage of what America has to offer.

Activate the inner beast inside of you. I’ve had so many negative things around me growing up, but my mind wouldn’t let me stay there.

Now for the Exclusive …

Easter, March 27th it’s going down! In the R & B world that is. Tyrese is doing something that has never been done before. He is releasing The Black Book | The Resurrection of R & B on Easter Sunday! It’s an 18 minute video/movie that includes Tank & V. Bozeman.

He will release 3 singles & 3 videos the very same day.

The first single will be called, “You can’t break me!” If you enjoy the sultry melodic sounds of Tyrese, you will be front and center when these 3 singles (& videos) drop on Easter.

History maker.

Seriously, has this ever been done before?

A Class Act

I enjoyed talking to Tyrese because in the short amount of time we had to speak with him, he was so genuine. You can tell he is at a point where he is in love with life & he is living it to the fullest.

He has experienced things, bad & great, that will allow him to pour inside of these up and coming students that could easily be life changing. It doesn’t hurt that he still looks like he could pass for a student too!

I’m excited for the youth who do win a trip to the Coca-Cola Pay it Forward Academy and get to experience a weekend with Tyrese. You can’t help but walk away inspired & changed.

2 Must Know Tips Before You Start ANYTHING! [Video]

I’ve been fortunate enough to know some great people, but even the great ones stall sometimes. We stall because of a few reasons;

  • lack of opportunity
  • lack of resources
  • lack of confidence

Although the reasons above are valid, there is none greater than the one I mention in the video below.

I had a great conversation with Quanyin Young who own SB Boutique in Atlanta last week about following your dreams! She shared 2 must know tips before you start ANYTHING! It really made me think and I wanted to share my thoughts on it for you.

You can skip to the 1.45 minute mark, where I get right into the 2 Must Know Tips Before You Start ANYTHING!

What are you thoughts about the 2 things? Can you relate to them?

10 BIG Benefits of Having a Coach for Any Area of Your Life

I have a trainer now. I love saying that. benefits of having a coach

I have a trainer.

I’ve always worked out. Always. I started running track in the 4th grade through my senior year. Those years as a track star (in my mind) taught me the importance of exercise, which is why umpteen years later I still do it.

Running track also taught me discipline & respect for authority. Now, of course my mom taught me how to respect authority but I am talking about respecting the authority of the position. I really respected my track coach and even had a healthy fear of him.

I respected that he knew more than I did about track and trusted him when he pushed me past my comfort level. While being coached by him, I became a better athlete, team player and a track champion.

Fast forward to 2016. I have a new coach.

After high school, I’ve never really had someone to push me like Coach Finny. Not in track or my professional career. I’ve had great friends that have motivated me, but nothing like a real mentor or actual coach.

I’ve always wanted both (mentor & trainer). Like I mentioned before, I work out on my own but I really believed a trainer could take me to the next level.

Coaches are more than …

Last year, I realized that I also wanted a business coach for 2016. I want to go to the next level professionally and I think a coach could help me but I couldn’t justify how and why.

After spending almost 1 month with my trainer & doing tons of research before I select a business coach for myself, I found too many Aha’s as to why people could benefit from any type of coach.

A coach is just not for athletes or our children’s after school activities. A coach can be used for any area of our lives. Many successful people that we look up to in society have mentors, personal and professional coaches. You don’t think Oprah, Steve Harvey or Bill Gates have a coach? They do.

Coaches can help you in many areas:

  • Career
  • Relationship
  • Family
  • Health
  • Lifestyle
  • Legacy
  • Spiritual

10 Benefits to Having a Coach for any Area of Your Life:

1. Motivation. A coach can motivate you past your own level of self motivation. They can push you beyond your self imposed limits.

2. Education. A coach is trained in the area you are trying to be the best in. Take advantage of their experience and let them help you go to the next level.

3. Accountability. A coach can and should hold you accountable for doing everything you said you would do in a certain time frame. You will produce greater results than you would normally do on your own.

4. Focus. A great coach will help you narrow down your goals and get specific on a game plan just for you.

5. Resources. A good coach has the major tools you need to go to the next level. They have the books, classes, challenges, etc. They should bring their full bag of tricks to the table.

6. Challenge. A coach can challenge you past your comfort level. They ask powerful questions that focus on what is really important and why.

7. A Different Perspective. We usually see things from our own perspective, but a coach sees the entire view. They can see where you are trying to go and know a more effective way to get there. They are not as emotionally tied to our success as we are, giving them a wider perspective.

8. Faster Results. We can all google, read and take classes but a coach cuts out the middle man. He could prevent you from being involved in things that are a waste of time. You could still reach your goals, but doing it alone could take longer because of the roads you might have to travel. A coach could cut out the clutter of internet, or books & magazines and point you in the quickest direction to your dreams.

One example is a GPS: When you leave your house and don’t know where you are going, you can easily ask people for directions as you drive (or guess). Or you can simply use your GPS. Eventually, you will get to your destination, but with the GPS you will get there faster!

9. Saves You Money. It might be expensive to hire a coach upfront, but you will make your money back in the long run. With all the benefits that the coach bring to the table that are mentioned above, it will make you more effective, efficient and highly productive.

10. Boost Self Confidence. Once you’ve experienced everything mentioned above, you can’t help but know that you are a badass (Thanks Shonda Rhimes!) When you see how a little extra work and tweaking to your current work methods can change your entire business, your confidence will be through the roof.

21 Quotes from Shonda Rhimes “Year of Yes” that Made Me Say YAASSS Too!

A good book is life changing.
Mind altering.
A gateway to new experiences.
All of the above.

I recently read Shonda Rhimes, creator of Gray’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, & Private Practice (it’s off the air now but I loved that show too!), new book YEAR of YES.

I read the reviews before I purchased the book and the majority were great, with details about what resonated the most for them. Sold.

I want to resonate. I want to connect. I want to say YES to somethings. Wait, what was she saying YES to? Why was she saying YES?

It’s amazing how small things, conversations or some times one word and change the trajectory of our life. Shonda was already a badass, whether she knew it or not, but in YEAR of YES she shares how one 6 word sentence on Thanksgiving changed her life. Now, it could very well change yours.

Instead of doing a basic review, I wanted to share with you the things I highlighted while reading this book and some mini revelations or my experiences that came along with it.

1. “Standing around like Wonder Woman in the morning can make people think you are more amazing at lunchtime.”

I didn’t know this was a real thing. Apparently, there are studies that say power posing like Wonder Woman for 5 minutes will improve self-esteem and hours later improves how others perceive you!

How do you post like Wonder Woman?

Stand up like a badass legs in a wide stance, chin up, hands on your hips. Like you own the place. Like you have on a magical silver bracelets and know how to use them. Like your superhero cape is flapping behind you! (Shonda’s words)

2. “I work to feed and clothe you. Do you want food and clothes? Then be quiet and show come gratitude.”

I just had this conversation with my children! Be grateful for the big things, but especially the small things. Please don’t take for granted you have food and clothes everyday, because many do not. Be grateful.

3. “I think a lot of people dream. And while they are busy dreaming, the really happy people, the really successful people, the really interesting, powerful, engaged people? Are busy doing.”

I think this might have been the only quote that made me feel like I was going against Shonda Rhimes. Along with this quote, she mentions don’t be a dreamer but a doer. Now we all know that I “dream big” but she made me want to do both and the person she is referring to in this quote, could very well be doing both.

4. “Shonda, how do you do it all? The answer is this: I don’t. Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means that I am failing in another area of my life.”

There is no balance. It’s priority. It’s management. You can’t balance motherhood, career, marriage, this, that and everything else. You can manage it effectively. Don’t be so quick to think some people have it all together because you don’t really see what’s their lacking in their life.

5. “If I had only known that not even Whitney’s hair could look like that …”

Shonda spent years in high school trying to make her hair look like Whitney Houston, only to learn as an adult that it was a wig! Sorta like me trying to look like Mary J. Blige. She realized that she wasn’t a failure for not ever actually being able to recreate that look, she just didn’t own the same wig.

Stop trying to be like someone famous or look like someone else, because everything you see isn’t always the real deal. Be your best self.

6. “Being a mother requires us to get it together or risk messing up another person forever.”

When you have a child, you are officially in charge of raising a human being. It’s not easy but rewarding.

7. “Working or staying home, one is still a mother. One is not better than the other. Both choices are worthy of the same amount of respect.”

I think for women who have never did one or the other, it’s easy to judge. We’re all moms and want the best for our children. Sometimes, I think women who work outside of the home have it harder. They work all day and still come home to be mom. On the flip side, women who stay at home could easily feel they never get a break.

8. “I am a powerful woman who knows no powerful women.”

It’s important to have friends who you can relate you.

9. “If I don’t poke my head out of my shell and show people who I am, all anyone will ever think I am is my shell.”

This spoke to me because I’ve been told, “You’re quiet.” “You’re hard to read” “It took a while to get to know you.” I don’t have a rough exterior on purpose, but it’s just who I am. Now that I know how certain people perceive me, I’ve been trying to be more open.

10. “Did you notice not a single woman in this room can handle being told she is awesome? What is wrong with us?!”

Some women can not take a simple compliment. Instead of just saying, “Thank you” when someone compliments you. We’re known to say, “Thank you, but … (enter negative statement).” Accept the compliment. The person thought enough of you to give you one.

11. “Don’t call me lucky. Call me a badass.”

It’s not luck. It’s hard work. When you work hard for everything you have. You’re not lucky. You’re a badass.

12. “An honest opinion is priceless.”

The kicker is an honest opinion “the first time”. If I have to ask you two to three times for an honest answer or you’re always coming back later with, “Well, honestly I really didn’t like this because XYZ!” What!! I mean really, WHAT! I should always be able to trust you when I ask you ANY TYPE of question. I don’t need a co-signer. I need you to tell me the truth.

13. “It’s not bragging if you can back it up,” I whisper to myself in the shower every morning.

Self explanatory!

14. “No is a complete sentence. I’ve heard that cliché over and over. So I decided to treat no in the same way I treat saying thank you. Say no and then don’t say anything else. I come up with three different clear ways of saying no …

  1. I am going to be unable to do that.
  2. That is not going to work for me.
  3. No.

15. “When someone says something petty or nasty, one of those little passive-aggressive things that would usually just pick at me for days, my new response is not to shut the door and bitch to anyone who will listen. Now? The moment they say it? I ask What did you mean by that?” in a calm voice.

I LOVED this! So many times people but passive aggressive things on Social Media or say something real slick and hope that you just “get it” and not have any real responsibility about their comments. Now I also ask, “What did you mean by that?” It catches them off guard because they weren’t ready to be called out on their gibberish.

16. “Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He is very dreamy,” she says. “But he is not the sun. You are.”

This was the final quote from Christina Yang, Grey’s Anatomy, as she left the show last season. We are all our own SUN. Don’t let your life revolve around anyone (but God). Get what you need.

17. “Why marry the guy when you have the Chocolate Factory? He loves me. I love him. Still. I can’t imagine giving him any more attention. I try. I just can’t imagine it.

I loved that Shonda told the man in her life this. This took guts, “I can’t imagine giving you any more attention!” Wow!! Some women would be grateful to have a man propose to them, but here she is turning one down because … she can’t imagine giving him any more attention! What a way to walk away!

18. The rule is: there are no rules. Happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to. As your inner voice tell you to.

Everyone’s happiness is different. Find yours. Enjoy life. Period.

19. “You don’t want a baby? Don’t have one. I don’t want to get married? I won’t. You want to live alone? Enjoy it. You want to love someone? Love someone. Don’t apologize. Don’t explain. Don’t ever feel less than.

That’s right. Don’t explain. Well, unless your mom and dad really want to know.

20. “The point of this whole Year of Yes project is to say yes to things that scare me, that challenge me.”

Could you do something like this? How would your life look different if you said yes to the things that scared you? How would your life look on the opposite side of fear? Quick, choose one thing that scares you and vow to do it for 2016? What is it? Can you share it with me?

21. “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”  Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote ended the book. So simple. YOU MUST do the things you think you cannot do. I bet you that is a great feeling when you actually get it done.

Did you enjoy the quotes? Which one resonated with you the most? Have you read the Year of Yes? What did you think about it?
