[Giveaway] 5 Ways to Wear Leggings in the Winter Outside of the Gym

There has been an on going debate about leggings for the past few years. Should I or shouldn’t I wear them as pants? If I am 100% honest with you, I think leggings worn the wrong way are very inappropriate. (Before you write me nasty comments, that’s just the mom in me.)

But but but … whatever you are comfortable in,  you should wear proudly.

Legging are versatile. They can be worn many different ways, creating so many comfortable & chic looks. I was fortunate enough to try some No Nonsense Leggings over the past month and they have a pair for every season.

Now that winter is here, you can still rock them!

Initially leggings were deemed as “The Exercise Pants” and years later it has become our go-to pants for any and every occasion. While we still exercise in leggings, here are a few ways you can style them outside of the gym.

5 Ways to Wear Leggings Outside of a Fitness Gym:

1. Long, open (or closed) buttoned down shirt with a scarf & boots.

2. Add a long cardigan sweater over a t-shirt for a relaxed look.

3. A cute pair of flats, oversized T shirt and scarf for an around the town look.

4. A shirt that is too short to be a dress, but too long to be shirt is a perfect match for leggings.

5. In the colder months, substitute tights for leggings! Wear them under a skirt or dress.

Bonus Tip:

6. Pattern leggings take all of the attention, so pair it with a solid shirt (white, black or another color).

What styles have you tried? Luckily with No nonsense leggings, they accentuate your natural curves and are extremely comfortable.

Discover No nonsense leggings in:

  • Denim
  • Corduroy
  • Chino
  • Ponte
  • and Cotton styles

I was sent 3 pair; Denim, Animal Print and a Solid Color. You can pair these with almost anything? How would you like to try a pair or two?

Fab Top 5: FIVE Types of Fall Boots That Should Be in Heavy Rotation

Summer is almost over and although I hate to say goodbye, my favorite season is knocking on the door! Fall is the perfect season because it’s just great weather. You have days wear you can where dresses, pants, sweats, shorts all in the same day without a coat.

Just perfect weather.

In terms of fashion, you can tell the tide is turning because women pull out their boots and put up the open toed shoes and flip flops. Short shorts become leggings and halter tops become long sleeve shawls.

What do you look for in a good boot? How many varieties do you have in your closet? While I was writing this post, I had to do inventory of my own closet. I have every boot except #4 and that’s only because I sold my pair in our yard sale a few weeks back.

Fall Boots_ BernettaStyle

  1. Rain Boots – Fall might as well be called Rain Season! Winter, Spring, Summer, Rain! With the rain and the falling of tree leaves, you get a nasty mix on the ground. Rain boots are the perfect shoe to walk in the water and look cute at the same time. (Image Sperry Top-Sider Women’s Pelican III Rainboot $49)
  2. Cowboy boots – This honestly might be a personal preference. I think certain cowboy boots are so stylish with a nice legging and sweat shirt. However, some jeans and a sweater could be a great look too. (Image: Spite Women’s Arianna Western Boot $30)
  3. Knee High Wedge Boots – These types of boots never go out of style. They have so many varieties of color and styles that you could have one for every day of the week. They go best with a skinny jean or leggings. They even look good with tights and a dress, if it’s not to long. (Image: Clarks Women’s Natira Kae GTX Wedge Boot $99)
  4. Boots with a Heal – These are for those hot date nights with your boo! High heel boots aren’t for everyday wear unless you’re 21-29. Nobody around these parts (35 & up) are trying to walk in high heel anything all day! But on a day night, watch me work! (Jessica Simpson Avern Women’s Boot $69)
  5. Short Boots– These work with a cute pencil shirt or flared out skirt . They can be dressed up or dressed down. (FRYE Women’s Veronica Short Boot $120)

A good boot should last you at least 2 seasons (meaning 2 years). I know trends change but a basic black, brown or gray doesn’t go out of style. You can always add to your wardrobe with a one of a kind trendy piece each season, but there is no way I’m buying 4 to 5 new boots every fall just like I don’t buy new flats every summer.

What is your must have boot this fall?

3 Things My Children Must Know Before School Starts #backtobgosh

“I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central forOshKosh B’Gosh. I received an OshKoshB’Gosh gift card to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

If you are a parent of school age children, then August or September (depending on where you live) is dedicated to “Back to School”. No matter what you do for the summer; vacation, camps, relaxation, etc., you have to prepare your children to return to school.

I have 3 active children, so back to school shopping is always a treat! (I’m staying positive!) My two oldest are in elementary and the youngest is in daycare. They all wear uniforms which makes it easy on me during the week, so the weekends are where we like to get stylish with their outfits.

I love OshKosh B’gosh simply because they have sizes that cover my 2 year old to my 10 year old. I feel I can go in their store and get something for each child but still allow them to show case their individuality.

On my recent shopping trip, my two oldest wanted to shop with me. As we entered the store, I told my daughter to go look at what she likes. I wanted to give my oldest son some one-on-one time. He was immediately drawn to a look on a mannequin and tried to get the same outfit.

His exact words where, “Mom! I want to look cool and this is a cool look!” We were able to find him some slim fitting sweats – which happen to be a trend for young adults. It’s a step up from his gym uniform sweats indeed! These sweats can be worn with a plaid button shirt or hip t-shirt.

When it was my daughters turn, I asked her “What do you like?” Her response was, “Everything Mom! I want everything I see!”

After expressing my sorrows for not being able to fit everything in my car, we narrowed down a few must haves she wants. She wanted a long flowing dress, new shoes, and one outfit! Because everything was 40% off, plus I had a 20% coupon, I was able to what she wanted, plus a pair of skinny dark jeans, two cute t-shirts, and a flowered blouse.

Although my youngest son wasn’t there, what type of mommy would I be if I didn’t get him something? They had a great $5 t-shirt collection and thought this would be perfect for him!

OshKosh B’Gosh also has the most adorable shoes for little boys. You could pair them in quite a few ways.

3 Things My Children Must Know …

A few days ago, we actually had sneak-a-peak with my children’s new teachers. While it’s good to meet their new teachers and read about their room rules including what they expect, we also as parents have to lay out our expectations for the upcoming school year.

1. Think Positive: You can do anything you put your mind too. Go into the school year believing that you will get good grades and do great things this school year. In addition to thinking positive, allow your attitude and actions to do the same thing.

2. Set Goals: Early in the school year, decide how you want your school year to be. What do you want to learn or have accomplished by the end of the school year? As parents, we can help you get there.

3. Don’t Give Up: There are many times where what you want is only ONE more try away. Continue to work hard towards your goals and if you need time to regroup, rework or try something different – do that. Just don’t give up!

Osh Kosh_BernettaStyle

Each school year brings it’s own set of challenges: new teachers, new classmates, school projects, school activities and more. The last things as parents we want to worry about are outfits.

OshKosh B’Gosh’s selection of clothes offers something for all of my children, which makes them happy because they picked their own outfits. So on the weekend, they are knocking my door down asking me, “Mommy! Can I wear this today?”

oshkoshOshKosh B’Gosh Gives Back

I love companies that give back because they genuinely care. OshKosh B’Gosh desires that all children have what they need this school year and have a partnership with K.I.D.S./ Fashion Delivers, Inc., and which allows customers to donate cash or a new pair of jeans. All denim donated from July 28 through September 16, 2015, will be delivered to local children in need through K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers. For more information visit:

And because I like to give back! I am sharing a 25% off coupon with you all! Enjoy! Find your local OshKosh store HERE.

How is the back to school shopping experience for you? Do you shop at OshKosh B’Gosh? What do you like about their clothes?

Emma’s Mode Affordable Rompers are a Summer’s Must Have

I do not like wearing shorts. I usually wear them around the house, but never out in public. I am a skirt and a dress kind of girl but when I was sent the cutest romper from Emma’s Mode, I couldn’t resist.

Emma Mode

The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the floral design. I loved it. It was not over the top, but still modern but classy. The fabric was light and thin which made me nervous, but after I tried it on – I loved it all over again.

Wait … I noticed it was shorts. Not just regular shorts, but shorter than normal. I tried it on and called my husband in the room to get his two cents. I liked it and then I had to talk myself into wearing it, “It’s ok! You look nice! You can wear this!”

My husband agreed and said, “Now you know you look good!” That was all I needed.

I wore this romper for the 4th of July and felt so cute! Although I wasn’t in traditional red, white and blue, these florals made me feel good to stand out.

Emma_Mode_romperEmma’s Mode prices are great. Their rompers range from $11.80 – $21.00. They have a fun selection of accessories, clothes, shoes, handbags and more. I dare you to buy just one thing on their site.

Visit their site and tell me what’s the cutest thing you’d order in a heart beat. Follow them on FB, Twitter & IG too! They stay social!

Have you ever had an outfit that you loved so much, that you wanted to tell everybody (or show) about it? Or make sure everyone sees you in it? This is exactly how I felt when I received my custom made dress from eShakti!

eShakti reached out to me and asked if I would like to give their service a try. I looked at the website and the gorgeous black and white number called my name.

eShakti 3

eShakti 2

What makes eShakti different?

What makes eShakti stand out is that you are able to customize your dress. They  believe that all women have the right to wear affordable fashion that is made for them and makes them look their absolute best. After I selected my dress, I noticed I was prompted to select a variety of options concerning this dress.

eShakti 1 alt

I decided how low I wanted my neckline to be, the leg & arm length of the dress, and even how tight I wanted it around my waist. I was very impressed, but even more excited to receive it in the mail.

When it arrived, it fit me perfectly and the material was a very thick neoprene. Meaning, it’s a perfect winter/early Spring dress, but too thick for Summer. I couldn’t wait to find the right occasion to wear this dress.

They offer a variety in sizes ranging from 0-36W:

  • Dresses
  • Pants
  • Tops
  • Skirts
  • Weddings & Events

Fab 5 Series: Top 5 Spring Dresses for Moms, Especially #5

I love a nice dress! Don’t you?  Spring Dresses

I love Spring time because I get to go into my closet and just grab a dress and not worry about cold weather, stockings, tights  or even boots! The hardest decision that accompanies wearing a dress are what accessories & shoes to select! Which really isn’t that hard of a choice.

All Dresses are NOT Created Equal:

Just because you are a wife and/or mother, there are ways to still dress and feel like, “I’ve still got it!” Sometimes as mothers, we let ourselves get into the “Mommy Dress Rut” and we take care of the children first and take care of ourselves last. Well, not this Spring!

Here are 5 dresses that you should add to your wardrobe for different occasions of the season:

Girlfriends Dress:

As a busy woman (and everything that includes; wife, mom, blogger, & much more) I look forward to a Girls Night Out. These nights allow us to catch up, laugh, be social and basically cut loose. Whether it’s a lunch date with the girls, a Saturday night dinner or a Sunday afternoon brunch – find a perfect dress to make you feel pretty and carefree.  Dress below: Goodwill $6

top_5_spring dresses

 Saturday Dress:

On the weekends we are usually handling extra business or taking our children to their social events (birthday parties, sporting games, & play dates). Well, who said you had to be frumpy about it! You can still wear an adorable dress with the kids on the go. Saturday dresses are made for comfortable cuteness! Dress below: Last Chance Thrift $4

Thrifted Dress:

It’s all about the price tag for me! I like nice things, but I like a nice price tag too and when you have a family to care for – you sometimes cut corners to keep more coins in your pocket. A thrift store (Goodwill, Salvation Army, or local shops) can allow you to stay stylish for what seems like change! I’ve found so many adorable dresses between the price range of $2.00-$12.00, that people now try to guess where and how much! The cool thing is, by the time it hits the thrift store shelves – it’s now one of a kind! Dress below: Goodwill $12 (because it was a formal, most dresses are 5.99)

Mother’s Day Dress:

Whether you go to church on Mother’s Day or your family treats you to a nice lunch, you still want to look great. I’ve found great Mother’s Day dresses at Ross, Target and even department stores. It’s all about how good you feel when you put the dress on. This is a day you celebrate being a mom, so of course I rock a dress that makes me feel beautiful and motherly! Motherly doesn’t mean, homely either! Dress below: SB Boutique (gifted, but $200)

and last by not least….

Freak’em Dress:

Beyonce made this term famous from one her songs, but as a fan – I realized I had a few in my closet too. Now, freak ’em dresses are not to be worn with the kids around! Unless, you are on your way to drop them off at the babysitter. A freak ’em dress is usually worn on date night with your husband, lover, or boo. This dress lets him know:

  • You still got it
  • You still KNOW you got it
  • You are more than just a mom
  • And those workouts are not in vain   Dress below: ASOS $55

Ladies, add these dresses to your Spring wardrobe and you will be ready for every possible occasion in style!

Please answer this, what dress category do you need to make sure you have?

A Facebook Ad Found My New Favorite Stylish Winter Coat

Jolly_Winter Coat

This is going to be a short and to the point post about …. my new coat! Have you ever noticed those Facebook ads on the side of your timeline? Well, one actually caught my eye and I clicked on it. Yup, they got me!

Well, I saw this FAB Winter Coat and actually bought it!

Jolly_BernettaStyle_winter coat

This is the Patch PU Asymmetric Style Long Woolen Blends Coat & it comes in Black and Deep Blue for only $28.99!! I ordered mine and shared it with my friends (they live in different states!). Of course they wanted the link! I then showed it too my BFF (who lives in a different state), she wanted the link!

That got me to thinking, how many other ladies might LOVE this coat! So, here’s the LINK Ladies! After searching this site, I found out they have some CUTE items that are very affordable.

I bought my coat in a deep blue.

Do I like it? Yes and No. It’s thinner than I thought it was. I wanted a new Winter coat, and its more like a Fall jacket. It doesn’t seem to hang like it does on the lady, but it could just be the way I have it on.

It’s a cute jacket, I just don’t love it anymore. I just like it. Meh!

5 Fall Fashions You Will Find at the Thrift Shop

Hi there! My name is Whitney and I’m the lifestyle blogger behind Whitney Nic James. Like my blog buddy Bernetta, I love to thrift shop! I thoroughly enjoy the thrill of the hunt and of course, you can’t beat those prices. So today, I’m excited to share 5 things you should thrift this fall!

  1. Outerwear – My favorite thing about the fall is wearing really cute coats and capes. When you walk into your local Goodwill or thrift store, the selection of leather jackets, cashmere capes, and wool coats is (usually) plentiful. Don’t be scared to shop the men’s section for these items too. A lot of great designer finds are tucked away in that section.
  1. Boots – Some people aren’t into thrifting shoes, but I believe there’s an exception when it comes to designer and well-made shoes. I’ve come across designer boots like Nine West and Cole Haan in near perfect condition with unbelievable price tags!
  1. Scarves – Thrifting for scarves has been “my thing” for years. I love the different patterns and textures of the scarves I come across while thrifting. Weather I’m on the hunt for a lightweight scarf to pair with a blazer and denim or a heavier one to pair with my winter coat and gloves, 99% I find what I’m looking for. Unique scarves also make perfect birthday or Christmas gift as well. unnamed
  1. Sequins & Sparkle –I’ve noticed a lot of thrift stores put out their sequin and beaded items during the fall months, in preparation for the holidays. Therefore, fall is the perfect time to stock up on any and everything with sequins. If you have a holiday party or gathering coming up and you’re looking for that perfect vintage gown, thrift it!
  1. Holiday Décor – Just like the sequins and beaded items, thrift stores start putting out holiday décor items during the fall as well. I purchased several unique Christmas tree ornaments last year around this time. I also found a lot of unused Christmas gift bags and boxes. Don’t wait until December; start stocking up on these items soon and save some money while doing it.

What are you Favorite Fall pieces for the season?

Super Model Emme Host Macy’s Fall Fashion Show {Recap} #MacyEvents @SheSpeaksUp

Who doesn’t love a fashion show? Who doesn’t love to be “in the know” of what’s coming in terms of trends, colors and patterns? Maybe someone who doesn’t love FASHION!! I am glad that’s not me.

Last week, Macy’s in Lenox Mall presented a Fall Fashion show hosted by Emme, the first plus size model. I honestly feel uncomfortable saying “Plus Size” because when you see her, she is too fab and I don’t see “PLUS” at all.

Emme 1The fashion show was open to all, but if you were lucky (and got there early) – seats were available. I love that all my blogging buddies were on the front row!

I spy Yolanda, Maria, Ashley, Nikki and Marie right there doing what bloggers do – tweeting, Facebooking (is that a word?) and IG post! We love this stuff!

The show allowed us to see what’s coming this current Fall season, which happens to be what I already love – Leopard prints! I will wear leopard pants, shirts and shoes – but not all at the same time. So, I am glad to see that is going to be a Fall favorite because that just means, new designs will be coming soon from some of the top Macy’s designers like, Michael Kors, Jessica Simpson, and INC Internationals Concepts.

Some of the other fashion trends to look out for will be Dresses; Wrap dresses & sweater dresses! I am a dress person! I love them no matter the season. Also, look out for ankle boots, skirts and a new twist on skinny jeans.

DSCN0197 DSCN0200And the cutest part of the evening was when my friend Joyce’s son ran on stage to give his mom a supportive hug!! Gotta love the kids! It was a social media favorite on Friday night!

DSCN0243After the fashion show, there was a panel discussion on fashion and what does being Plus Size mean to them. Emme shared earlier that she loved that more designers are catering toward curvier women. It allows women of all sizes to celebrate themselves. Plus size women should not be subject to certain trends but open to all the possibilities.

10649523_10203861778938435_9056190970396563035_nI love that Macy’s host these types of events and hope to see more like these in the near future. It allows the consumer to actually connect with the brands they know and love. When someone like Emme comes out and talks to us, it let’s us see that although she is a celebrity – she’s real just like us.

What are you looking forward to wearing this Fall Season? I must say for me, it’s the boots & leopard!!

Gregory Sylvia | My New Accessory

For the past few weeks, I have been carrying my newest accessory. A Gregory Sylvia exclusive. Every place I carried this bag, I’ve received tons of compliments. It’s a beautifully made bag and it’s sturdy enough to fit my laptop, iPad and all of my personal things. I get luxury, elegance & functionality.

I was also lucky enough to meet the creators, Husband and Wife duo, Gregory and Terri “Sylvia” Pope. We were able to see more of their line in person and meet other lucky bloggers/media who were rocking these bags too! I love the way the name of the company just flows, so that you actually think it’s one person. They had a desire to create beautiful bags for woman, but will soon expand to man bags too. They describe their brand as “Executive Chic.” (Photo credit: Kiwi the Beauty)

When the couple initially started out, they made luxury bags for sororities. Terri is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and created a beautiful bag to compliment her Sorority Sisters and then created an entire line. The love for these bags quickly caught on and they often sell out.

Sorority Collection

While carrying my Davenport, I couldn’t help but go online and take a sneak peek at what else Gregory Sylvia had to offer. I have created a collage below of my favorite 5 bags. Yes, I like all of them, but that Skylar (which also stays sold out) has a special place in my heart. The prices are comparable to the other major handbag players but I know you will save money and still be fashionable with a Gregory Sylvia. I love that with these bags you can be cute & casual or fine and elegant all on the same day. You can dress it up or down, but whatever you chose – a Gregory Sylvia bag will compliment you.

Which is your favorite?

White: This Year’s Summers Color and 5 Ways to Wear it : Simple Summer Series

Many of us are excited to celebrate the summertime. After all, summer is a long-anticipated time of the year, and it would only make sense for us to want to take in all that it has to offer.

When it comes to fashion, summer is one of the best times to show off your knowledge. Part of fashion includes staying up to date with critical trends, whether they include patterns, colors, or styles. This year, one color has made a tremendous impact, and that color just so happens to be white.

If wearing white isn’t one of your strong points, then here is a helpful guide with five ways to wear white.

1. Light, Airy Skirts

So, you aren’t sure what to do with that gorgeous black and white crop top? One good solution is to wear a light and airy skirt. Try to go with skirts that show a little bit of poof, but not too much. You might also want to opt for skirts that have a little bit of embroidery in its detail, since this will give it a casual, carefree, and fun girly look.

2. Cropped Shorts

Ready to go to the beach? Don’t forget to hit the sand without your pair of cropped white shorts. Perfect for withstanding the scorching summer sun, your cropped shorts will prove to be two things: comfortable and fashionable. Pair it with your bikini top or wear it with your favorite tank. Just don’t forget to apply your sunscreen!

3. Swimsuits – of all Kinds

If you plan on fitting in with the hot summer fashion trend of wearing white, do not forget to apply this rule to your swimsuits! This year, there are a ton of bathing suit trends. Try wearing a super-cute and retro-inspired bikini with a long hat, or even opt for the ever-fascinating monokini. If you want to stay classic, then do not forget the more well-known options of bikinis and one-piece bathing suits.

4. Accessories

Just because you want white to be the focal color of your wardrobe doesn’t mean that you have to forget about the accessories. This year, remember to purchase big, bold sunglasses in white and to bring it all together with a large floppy hat. You could also go a little chic and wear white bangles around your wrist, complemented by a nice pair of white high heels. (However, make sure that your whole outfit isn’t white!)

5. Maxi Dresses

One summer favorite is the popular maxi dress. This is the perfect dress to go for a nice walk in during the hot summertime and is perfect for barbeques or other fun summer celebrations. Don’t forget to accessorize with more colorful accessories if you choose to go with a white maxi dress.

Summer is a ton of fun, and your wardrobe can reflect that. When you have a great summer outfit to show around your friends, you’ll feel confident and happy. Try out white this year as a fashion statement option, whether your wear a white embroidered skirt or a retro-themed swimsuit.

How are you wearing your summer white?

Follow AMIClub Wear online at Facebook, Twitter,  they have a wide variety of options to choose from with a wide price range. I actually have my summer white bathing suit from here, and I like how I look in it!
