Wordy Wellness Wednesday :: The Egg White Facial Mask (Video) #WW

I had never heard of the egg white facial until I saw my friends picture/post on FB.

FB is the news isn’t it! LOL!  I have found about so many things (good & bad) on social media first. Ok, that’s another post. 2013-09-11_08-51-13[1]My friend Yolanda, who is the creator of Seeing it Their Way posted this video one day and of course, I had to try it. She also has some great hair tutorials too! I have Hair Envy when it comes to her!! Love her BIG HAIR!

Benefits of an Egg White Mask:

1. It helps to tighten your pores (Wrinkle Prevention) – Soon after you apply this mask, your skin will start to feel tight as it dries. Some people believe its effects are similar to a short-term facelift. At the bare minimum, the egg whites tighten pores and remove dead skin cells.

2. It removes black heads – It was amazing to see my black & white heads on that mask once I pulled it off. It was like the eggs went deep into my pores and grabbed them out! If you do it right, meaning no talking after you apply it and let it dry all the way – you should be able to see the blackheads come out. It’s better than squeezing your nose, which I am guilty off.

3. Skin is less oily – Egg whites draw oil from the pores while tightening the skin. I don’t have oily skin so I really never noticed this benefit.

I also found out you can add a few strawberries too (mashed up of course). The strawberries act as an astringent and are great for oily skin. They are loaded with Salicylic Acid which is a great treatment for acne too. You can also had honey for a skin moisturizer.

Conclusion: I do this mainly on date/special event nights, because for me it’s serves as a mini natural face lift.

#WW :: My Sour Cream Facial Results

I absolutely love June Ambrose’s Style & Skin! I follow her on Instagram and she is Living Life! Her skin is FLAWLESS. She takes pictures with and without make-up often and you can tell she takes care of herself from the inside out.

One night while scrolling through images, I saw this one pop up! The caption read: Fridge Fine..Sour Cream Mask! Spread 1 to 2 teaspoons across a clean face &  neck, avoiding the lips & eyes. Remove with a wet washcloth after 7-10 mins  then splash! The (alpha-hydroxy acid) helps speed cell turnover, brightening  dull complexions!

So, I tried it.
2013-09-11_08-50-55[1]Initially, I felt silly. It was cold but went on smooth. I kept it on for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, you can tell it gets tight on your skin and seems to disappear. Afterward, I wash my face off with warm water. What I can’t get off with water, I use a soft towel.

I can immediately see a difference in my skin after I do a sour cream facial. My face seems tighter, brighter and just a tad bit youthful. My husband even noticed a slight difference. He was there when I washed it off. I have started doing these once a week or on a day I have a cool event to attend.

Benefits of a Sour Cream Facial:

  • Active Ingredient is Lactic Acid – which naturally removes the dead skin to promote new skin cell generation, even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
  • Helps skin retain moisture.
  • It’s a natural exfoliator and boost the production of collagen (which forms connective tissue that supports the skin.)

Additional ingredients: You can add a half of banana & a teaspoon of honey for additional benefits, but right now I stick with plain sour cream.

Sneak Peak: The Egg White Mask! Stay tune for the next natural facial post!

Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream Review

A few weeks ago I was sent Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream to review. I actually use Aveeno products so I was honestly excited to get this in the mail. I currently use their Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer for day time use and recently purchased their daily skin scrub.

I have never tried their night cream but quickly added it to my regimen. The bottle is not that big, only 1.7oz, so don’t use alot at one time. I quickly noticed the sweet smell and how light it was. It went on my face very smooth and left my skin feeling moisturized. In the morning, my skin still felt soft.

I am a realist and didn’t expect miracles or to look 10 years younger but I will say my skin was still soft in the morning. I wanted to keep touching it. My skin didn’t look dry or tired either. I liked that. I don’t wear make-up often so good skin care is a must. I still have some left in the bottle and will continue to use it until the jar is empty. I like Aveeno because its a trusted brand and they use quality ingredients. I even trust their products on my baby. I have been using them for years and have not been disappointed.

You can read the reviews of others users at www. The bottle retails for around $16.99, but if you are like me – you will find a coupon!

5 Things I Can’t Live Without!

A few weeks ago I hosted our monthly Mocha Moms meeting and our topic was, what are “5 things that you can’t live without!” The Mochas had to bring the items and talk about why they were so important to them. It was a very interesting night. We learned alot about each other and learned about alot of new products as well. Today, I decided to share my 5 things.

1) Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap.
Sold at Target for $4.99

This soap is known as an acne prone face & body bar. I usually don’t have breakouts and I thought using this would keep it that way. I originally bought this soap for my face but now I use it all over. I have even washed my hair with this soap. If you rub the bar on your hair under the shower water, it will suds up so quick and didn’t leave my hair dry like normal shampoo. I feel it keeps my skin clear and it doesn’t have all the unnatural toxic ingredients most commercial soaps do. I love it!

2) Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer, SPF 30.
Sold at Walmart, Target for an average price of $14.99
I go back and forth between Olay and Aveeno Moisturizers. The real important part of # 2 is the sunscreen. Sunscreen is a great anti-ager! And I happen to get great moisturizing coverage and sunscreen protection from Aveeno. I like their positively radiant because it promotes that it evens out skin tone & texture and it’s supposed to give you a natural glow. Supposed too! Also when I visited a dermatologist she said Aveeno & Neutrogena are great products for your skin.

 3) Bernetta’s Body Butter Blend
Sold at Etsy & Beauty Depot, Marietta, GA $10-$17

Now what can I say about this product. This is a product that I created by accident. I don’t have a relaxer and would mix all natural products for my hair and one day rubbed my skin. I was amazed at how soft my creation for my hair left my skin feeling. I changed a few things, added a few things and Whalaaa > Bernetta’s Body Butter Blend. It’s made with a foundation of Shea Butter and Coconut oil but added in are more natural oils and a scent. My family no longer uses lotion but uses B3. We use it on our face, skin and hair. I am also amazed at how much it has sold since February once I started marketing this product! God has truly blown me away! I must say, the summer time hurt me a little because this 100 degree weather melts my product in the mail. I need a way to figure this out! Any suggestions?

4) Revlon Color Stay, Caramel
Sold at Walmart for $9.99

Now this is something I CAN live without but it’s something I discovered that I have added as truly a staple in my beauty regimen (when I do wear make-up). For the most part, I wear make up once a week, when I go to church. Now since I going to more events, I like to spruce up the face and wanted a makeup that was inexpensive and gave great coverage. I was watching SimplYounique on YouTube and her face is ALWAYS BEAT! She did a make-up tutorial and she uses this product! I tried it and I loved the coverage. It was so light, it felt like I didn’t have anything on. It also matched so perfectly that it looked like I didn’t have make-up on but instead a flawless face! And the fact that it was only $9.99 was the biggest plus. At that price and the amount I use, I am still on my first bottle and I bought this in May! I apply it with an E.L.F foundation brush ($1 at Target) and it goes on so smooth! This is my new foundation.

5) My EVO
Many carriers offer Driod Phones, I happen to be with Sprint.

Ok! I have never had an iPhone, iPad, or iPod so I can’t really miss what I have never had. I went from a PALM Centro to Blackberry to HTC Evo 3D. I love my phone. It does so much more than my blackberry ever did and like everyone else, I carry it everywhere. I love the speed, the apps, the picture quality although to be a blogger I really need to get a camera! But honestly, just like your purse – my phone is something that I have to carry every where I go! It’s how I stay connected. Now, if I only could log in to my Walgreen’s account and print these 1000 photos I have on here!

What about you? What are 5 things that you can’t live or rather not live without?

I Tried Dry Skin Brushing & My Skin Is Smiling

Have you ever tried Dry Brushing you skin? I have been trying this technique for the past three days and I can feel a difference in my skin. This past weekend, I went to my husbands family reunion and we started joking about how ashy my husbands legs were while we at the beach. His aunt Martha is a health guru! She eats and only uses all natural things on her body – so you know I love my talks with her. I just soak it in. She mentioned he needs to dry brush his skin. I asked what is that? And it started from there. (There is a video at the end of this blog showing you how to do this!) By the way, his aunt is 54 and skin is so smooth and soft and she definitely doesn’t look her age. Not a wrinkle anywhere! She takes awesome care of herself.

skin brushDry brushing involves rubbing the skin with a dry natural bristle brush. The process, which can be gentle or rough, may help slough off some dead skin cells.

The Benefits Of Dry Skin Brushing• Dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells, which can help improve skin texture and cell renewal.

• Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas.
• Dry skin brushing also helps to tighten the skin because it increases the flow of blood. Increasing the circulation to the skin can also help lessen the appearance of cellulite.
• Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph canals to drain toxic mucoid matter into the colon, thereby purifying the entire system. This enables the lymph to perform its house-cleaning duties by keeping the blood and other vital tissues detoxified. After several days of dry brushing, you may notice the gelatinous mucoid material in your stools.
• Dry skin brushing helps with muscle tone and more even distribution of fat deposits.
• Dry skin brushing also rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin.
• Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores. Healthy, breathing skin contributes to overall body health.
• Individuals who sit at a computer screen all day long will particularly take pleasure in the benefits of skin brushing. People who have inactive lifestyles or jobs usually experience stiff and sore necks and shoulders that reach even into their arms and down their spines and into their lower backs. Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed and you will experience an increase in electromagnetic energy that permits you to feel energized and invigorated.

How to Get Started With Your Skin Brushing Regimen

1. Purchase a natural, NOT a synthetic, bristle brush. (vegetable bristle)
2. Purchase a brush with a long handle, so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. Best-case scenario would be one that had a removable head with a strap for your hand.
3. Skin brushing should be performed once a day, preferably first thing in the morning. If you are feeling ill, please do it twice a day until you feel better.
4. Skin brushing should be performed prior to your bath or shower and your body dry and naked.
5. Begin brushing your skin in long sweeping strokes starting from the bottom of your feet upwards, and from the hands towards the shoulders, and on the torso in an upward direction. Always brush towards the heart. Try and brush several times in each area, over-lapping as you go.
6. Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken.

7. After brushing your skin, rinse off in the shower. Paavo Airola, author of Swedish Beauty Secrets, recommends alternating temperatures in the shower from hot to cold. This will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bring more blood to the outer layers of the skin.
8. After getting out of the shower, dry off vigorously and massage your skin with pure plant oil, such as almond, jojoba, sesame or coconut.

9. Don’t forget to clean your skin brush using soap and water once a week. After rinsing, dry your skin brush in an open, sunny spot to prevent mildew.

10. For a thorough lymphatic cleansing, perform skin brushing daily for a minimum of three months

How do YOU age gracefully? Here are some TIPS!

My goal is to age gracefully. I have never really considered plastic surgery (I am still young), but I think monthly facials will help (I want to start getting them regularly, and with the surge of sites like Candle Spa, Groupon, Living Social, etc., you can get facials for as low at $15 now!) In between professional assistance there are always things you can do at home. I wanted to share some of mine, some of the ones I’ve read in various magazines (ex: Essence) and would love for you to share a few of yours! So let’s get started!

Mask - ebay- eye mask -
1). Splash your face 20 times with lukewarm water mixed with the lather from your cleansing bar, followed by 10 splashes of cool, clean running water. This helps soften the skin and flush out the pores. Beatrice Simmions, Atlanta

2) Change your pillowcases weekly so the oil from your hair doesn’t transfer to your face and cause breakouts. Edrica Scott, Georgia

3) Make your own skin smoothing and softening bath soak with a mix of sea salt, dry milk and baking soda. Divineangelic Rogers

4) Lip gloss is like an oil and attracts the sun, so don’t forget to put sunscreen on your lips first because they can burn easily. Plus sun damage is one of the culprits behind lip discoloration.

5) Avoid rubbing your eyes. The more you rub them, the greater the chance that the skin around them will get darker. Rubbing inflames the area and causes more pigmentation to be deposited into the thin skin.

6) If you wear a scarf at night, add an extra layer of protection by putting a moisturizer cream around your edges, especially at the nape of your neck.

7) To create your most natural nude lip, before you apply a clear lip gloss – put on a bit of concealer that matches your skin tone.

8). To use less foundation for a more natural look – dip your sponge in water, squeeze out, then dip it in your base. The sponge will soak up the water and be too full to absorb excess foundation.

9) Instead of lipstick, mix eye shadow or blush with lip gloss. Ester L. Green
I haven’t tried this one, but I plan on it. Just to see what color I can come up with!

10) Tia Mowry’s tips (from Nick’s Instant Mom)
“I rub ice on my face in the morning before I put on makeup and evening before I go to bed. “Olive oil works wonders for me. I use it to moisturize my entire body and I use it on my baby too.”

11) Brandy’s tips (the singer)
“My mom taught me at a very young age to rub upward when applying moisturizer to prevent wrinkles.”

12) Cucumbers are perfect for puffiness around the eyes.

13) Egg whites as a mask, really keeps the skin tight.

14) Preparation H under the eyes takes the early-morning bags. Wendy Raquel Robinson

Butter Collage

15) I use my personal creation, Soft Butter. I make it with a Shea Butter base and add Coconut Oil, Olive Oil and Grapeseed oil. My body stays super soft. I use it from head to toe. Everyone that tries it loves how it moisturizes their skin. Get yours at

16)DRINK MORE WATER! It hydrates your skin from the inside out! It gives it a natural glow that no product every could.

17) EXERCISE > You already know it’s good for your body, health and aids in you aging gracefully in every way! 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. I personally enjoy Zumba and currently added Fitness Blender to my workout regimen!

18) Eat HEALTHY! A video blogger I follow gave all her followers a challenge; eat healthy 6 days and week and whatever on the 7th! It’s harder in the beginning, but once you make it a way of life – you will feel the difference. What’s better, you will see the difference shown on your skin, weight loss and more energy. You can do all of the above, but nothing can out do eating right and exercise!

What are your tips?
