In 2015 my life was changed forever. FOREVER.
I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. It came out of nowhere and even now, 4 years later I still wonder why did this happen to me. However, 4 years later, I’m also at a place of peace.
Everyone who is close to me already knows. Also, if you happen to see me out and about you might notice a small device. If you’re brave enough to ask, “What is that thing on your arm?”, you will soon know as well.
I’ve decided to share it on my blog because someone else may be going through something similar and it helps when people know they are not alone.
Instead of writing a very long story, I’ve decided to record it on video.
In the video, I answer 4 questions?
- How did I find out I had Type 1 Diabetes? (min :47 sec)
- What is Type 1 Diabetes? (min 3:34)
- How has my life changed in the last 4 years and where am I now? (min 5:52)
- How can you (as friends) support me? (min 12:12)
I did my first 5k walk for Type 1 Diabetes this weekend with my family. It was emotional, but a happy day.
Do you know someone that has Type 1 Diabetes? Feel free to share this video with someone that may need it

January 1, 2021 at 12:03 amO wow Bernatta, when we worked at the bank together i remember u saying you were prediabetic cos i noticed the way you ate in terms of portion, and i just asked. My older sister has been struggling with diabetes for 23 years , she struggles with her A1C as well. I have type 2 so it is different but the symtoms are like type 1. Am always thirsty and i will drink and drink but the thirst is never quenched. I have very dry mouth and my vision gets blurry sometimes. My sister wears the patch on her arm also too and she is on insulin. I was on insulin but am off it now, but i take metformin and another med. My A1C has stayed at 6.9 for the longest but am working hard to get it down. We will overcome. God is a miracle working God. Thanks for sharing your story. Take care of yourself and be blessed
