4 Things You Should Start TODAY to Moisturize Your Skin in the Cooler Months

This post is sponsored by Mirum. All opinions my own.

Have you heard the saying, “Summer bodies are made in the Winter?” Every time I hear that, it makes me want to go hard on my exercise regimen but also my eating habits and of course my skin care.

Yes, we show more skin in the Summer (Spring, Winter and Fall here in Florida too!) but just because your skin is covered up more in the cooler months, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t get equal attention.

Moisturizing our skin in the cooler months is just as important, if not more important because of the changes our skin goes through due to the temperature.

In my teens and 20’s, I believe I took my skin for granted. I applied lotion but wasn’t really faithful to my skin. I believed that I would have this skin forever or look like this always. Oh, to be young and free again …

Why is it important to keep the skin moisturized?

Our skin’s health and appearance are affected by moisture, and is a barrier against infection. Without water, skin’s natural processes, like exfoliation, can’t happen naturally, so maintaining an optimal level of moisture in skin is essential to its look and feel.

When we allow our skin to become dry, it becomes cracked. When cracks or breaks happen, the usual bacteria that lives on our skin can get inside and cause an infection. When we protect our skin from drying out, it’s more that just being ashy, we are protecting ourselves from possible infection and inflammatory skin conditions.

Here are 4 Things You Should Start TODAY to Moisturize Your Skin in the Cooler Months:

1. Eat citrus and eat it often.  An orange a day, keeps the wrinkle cream away. Ok, I just made that last sentence up, but it’s true that vitamin C pumps up collagen, the supportive protein fiber that keeps skin from sagging.

2. Choose a gentle PH balance soap. It will help to keep moisture in and less likely to irritate your skin.

3. Gobble up the Greens.  Load up the dark veggies, spinach, broccoli, and mustard greens which are rich in Vitamin A, which nourishes the skin from the inside out.

4. Seal in the moisture. The cold dry air can do a number on your skin. Lather on the lotion right after the shower to seal in the moisture. One lotion that my family uses is Vaseline Cocoa Radiant. It’s 100% pure cocoa and Shea butters, along with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, all in one bottle.

I’ve learned over the years not to take my skin for granted and how to take care of it. Whether its Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, I want my skin to always be soft, healthy and look it’s best. Vaseline Cocoa Radiant from Walmart really makes my skin soft and nurtured.

I love the results I get when I apply my lotion right after my shower. It seals in the moisture, so I don’t have to reapply in the morning.

I’m still soft.

Growing up my mother did not play when it came to moisturizing our skin. I don’t care what season it was. That teaching stuck with me and I’m the same with with my kids.

I tend to lay off moisturizing until my skin starts to look crazy. I will work on doing better as the temp drops.
