5 Reasons Why Girls Trip will be an Instant Classic

Girl Trip

One fact I know for sure is that girls love their friends. We love getting together for a moms night out, girls night in, lunch date, play date, Google Hangout and definitely a Girls Trip.

No matter how we choose to enjoy each other’s company, taking a break from the ups and downs of our lives to laugh so hard that we cry with our girlfriends is a top priority.

When I was asked if I wanted to screen the upcoming movie Girls Trip, starring Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, and Queen Latifah, I jumped at the opportunity. This movie has some of my favorite actors and actresses, so I couldn’t wait to see it.

Girls Trip is about 4 lifelong friends who have been in each others lives since college. They would always get together and celebrate each other, but over the last 5 years things changed. Regina Hall’s character has some big things going on in her life and gets the grand idea to do a Girls Trip reunion for the upcoming Essence Festival.

I’ve actually attended the Essence Festival in 2014 on my own Girls Trip with my best friend and had an amazing time. I even ran into Will Packer, executive producer of the Girls Trip Movie, walking down the street. I told him that I am a fan of his work and keep making great movies.

Just like the movie Girls Trip, our experience at Essence was definitely an experience for the memory books. Watching Girls Trip brought back memories of Essence, and other Girls Trips I’ve taken over the years. On July 21st when this movie opens, I will be sitting in the theatre with my best friend, Aseelah, ready to laugh, cry and definitely laugh some more.

Here are 5 Reasons Why Girls Trip will be an Instant Classic:

Sparks memories

Watching Girls Trip sparked so many memories of the times I’ve enjoyed in the past with my best friends. Two of my very best friends, I met my freshman year of college when I was 17 years old. After 20 plus years, we are still friends and recently traveled to Mexico for my 40th birthday for our own Girls Trip + the Hubby. The characters in this movie reminded me of our friendship, because no matter what is personally going on in our lives, we can come together and live in the moment.

Four Relatable Personalities

One reason I think I enjoyed this movie so much, is because I literally saw myself and my friends’ personalities throughout this film. The first question my best friend, Aseelah, asked me after I saw the movie was, “Which one remind you of yourself!” That was a hard one; because I honestly saw traits in Regina Hall & Queen Latifah’s character that remind me of myself. Tiffany Haddish’s character was totally my best friend! Her personality is big and she is always the life of the party. The different personalities show that everyone doesn’t have to be alike to be great friends. Differences make us great.

Music Brings People Together

Have you ever heard a song come on the radio and you knew exactly where you were and who you were with when it first came out? Music brings back memories and has the ability to make you scream, jump, dance and even cry. The music in this movie literally moved the crowd. It’s funny how we all started singing at the exact same time like we were right there with New Edition, P Diddy & Mase, Mary J Blige, Neo and more. For a moment we forgot we were watching a movie and not a concert.

Emotional Layers

One thing is clear: you are going to laugh this entire movie. However, outside of the laughter, Girls Trip will cause you to question your personal situations and look at your own true happiness. The movie takes you from laughter to tears, which allows you to experience many layers of emotions.

Eye Candy All Day

The movie is called Girls Trip, but it doesn’t disappoint in the eye candy department for the ladies. Larenz Tate has been my crush since I was a teenager and he still does it for me when I see him on the big screen. Kofi Siriboe, from Queen Sugar, steals every scene he’s in. You could hear the screams throughout the theatre when he just smiles. I feel a little funny gushing over him, especially since he was born the year I graduated high school! Mike Colter, from Luke Cage, plays Regina Hall’s husband in the movie. Outside of these three, there are a few more surprises.

Tiffany Haddish’s character was the true comic relief in this movie. It was to the point where you wanted to see what she was going to say next. For me, seeing Girls Trip was really self-reflective. It made me value the friendships I’ve created over the years, not just with my “girls” but other women from church, work, blogging and school. As women, sisterhood in friendships is important. It’s a great feeling when you know you can trust your friend no matter what. This movie allows you to experience all of this.

I’m going to see the film again, ironically, with a friend I recently reconnected with after a misunderstanding.
It’s funny how much this parallels life, especially the misunderstanding between Regina & Latifah’s characters. I think we all go through phases of friendship that include laughter AND tears!
