I was given the coolest opportunity to spend a couple of days at Jekyll Island Club with my husband and children last week, and we loved it. We simply loved it.

Have you really ever thought about the history of your vacation spot? Honestly, most of the time I don’t but when I stepped on Jekyll Island for the first time, you could see modern day history all around you.
When you start to enter the island, you cross over this bridge and the culture changes. The atmosphere becomes relaxed, quiet, and you immediately get a sense of a slower pace all around you.
I learned while I was there, that Jekyll Island has 128 years of history and hospitality. It’s nestled on Georgia’s Atlantic Coast (between Savannah & Jacksonville, Fl) and was voted one of top 500 resorts in the world.
We arrived about 4pm and immediately checked out the grounds. We walked around the actual club and visited the concierge to get the details on what the club has to offer. Here are a few of the amenities:
- Bike riding
- Horse Carriage Ride
- Property Tours
- Shrimp Boat Tour
- Turtle Excursion
- Jekyll Island Beach Experience
- Spa & so much more
On our first night, we went crabbing. We left the club to venture out to see the rest of the island, and that’s when my husband saw the dock! He loves to fish but didn’t bring his poles.
So, we bought a basket with chicken necks and he taught us how to crab. The first night we didn’t catch anything, but the second night we brought back at least 14 crabs.
The second day was a full out excursion. We woke up early so we could fit everything in. We dined on the property and then walked around the grounds looking at buildings, reveling in the history.
We learned that Jekyll Island was home to the exclusive rich and famous. Jekyll Island was viewed as a private getaway and now we were here enjoying it.
We were able to visit the Turtle Exhibit, relax at the beach, play miniature golf, experience the Jekyll Island club pool and the best Crab I’ve had in a long time.
These Dungeoness Crabs were so good at The Rah Bar, that I no longer desire Alaskan Snow Crabs! I have a new love!
These beautiful trees were everywhere. You couldn’t help but admire their beauty.
It’s so peaceful, I wasn’t sure if my children could actually enjoy relaxing without their electronics.
My husband and I agreed we needed more time because there were quite a few things left to do. As we talked about the island, we kept thinking of what fun it would be if we came back with other couples.
I’d like to think of Jekyll Island Club as a great in state vacation. It was a 4.5 hour drive, which wasn’t that far. It’s great for families or just you and your love. Just do me a favor and tell me how much fun you had.
