What the College FootBall Hall of Fame Did (for me) That My Husband Couldn’t Do

college football hall of fame

Am I the only woman that doesn’t get Football? I felt like it a few weeks ago.

I had a cool opportunity to visit the College Football Hall of Fame with my husband and two sons, and I now have a totally new appreciation for the sport that makes men (and apparently some women):

  • Change their schedules
  • Leave church early or won’t attend at all
  • Sit in a parking lot and BBQ at a stadium & won’t buy a ticket.
  • Start Facebook wars (which some people end up defriended)

I have been married a long time, and my husband enjoys a good game. Over the years, I haven’t tried to fake like I enjoy football, because he knows the truth. I simply tolerate it. I will watch a game with him, because I know:

  • What a touchdown is
  • How much a touchdown is worth
  • How much a kick is worth
  • What the quarter back should do

That’s enough to sit back and yell and scream with my husband, but then I went to the College Football Hall of Fame! My mind changed! What the College Football Hall of Fame did for me that my husband couldn’t apparently do was …. give me an appreciation for FOOTBALL!

I walked in this place and my mouth dropped. You walk in through the Entry Tunnel and see a moving image of a football team running into a game! Once you make it to the grand entrance, there are 768 football helmets from colleges all over the country.

To start your experience, you select your college. My husband selected Florida and I did Alabama State. After your college is selected, you are given a digital card that you take with you on your tour. Whenever you get to certain parts of the CFHF, history, coaches information, players information and college information will just appear for you! So you can basically tailor your visit around what you want to see.

CFHF 1CFH 4In addition to all the history in the CFHF, there’s a huge field (Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl Skill Zone) for the big kid in your husband! Or your kid! My son had a blast trying to catch the ball, run the field and kick a field goal. (Check out the video) I had a video of my husband kicking the ball, but he asked me not to show that!

Why Do I Appreciate the Sport Now?

The College Football Hall of Fame, doesn’t leave any stone unturned. They have a history section and show how football started with the first Football helmet, shoes, uniform and more. They show the progression of every aspect of the game. It’s even a section for tailgaters in the Hall of Fame! Who knew so many people love football? Well, college football.

CHF 3I love that they don’t leave out Historically Black Colleges too. They have a section that shows how they fit in to the history of College Football.

What Does Football Teach the Players:

  • Leadership
  • Character
  • Service

You will learn more about these qualities on the Leadership Wall.

Building-Leaders-1024x682I wasn’t expecting to almost shed a tear either, but that almost happened when we entered the Game Day theatre to watch the film ultra-high definition 4K feature film “The Game of Your Life.” Game-Day-theater

Here are a list of different things you can experience will at the CFHF. Click on any of these to see what to expect when you visit:

We all know that the Superbowl is February 1st, but the man in your life doesn’t have to be without his beloved sport for an entire season. He can come to the CFHF and get active. My husband didn’t want to leave. I am not just saying that, he really didn’t want to leave.

I now sit down with him and call out plays, ask more questions, know my positions and even argue with him when I think a player should have did something else. It’s fun. I still think that these players tackle too quickly, I honestly do. Let the guy run!

If you are in Atlanta, visit the College Football Hall of Fame or plan an event there.

I’ve been learning a lot about football since my husband watches it all the time. I’m actually able to follow the game a bit better. I’m glad he’s not die hard enough that he’ll miss church though. That’s where I draw the line.

I’ve never heard of this place before but will definitely plan to check it out next time I’m in ATL. I still don’t watch it all the time but started to enjoy it when I joined the marching band at Hampton U.

I always enjoyed going to college games for the half time show…that’s it! LOL But I’d probably appreciate football more too if I gave it a shot. I’ll def have to take the family for a road trip to check the place! 😀
