Event Recap

My Black Is Beautiful Event With Lisa Nichols

Essence Festival was a blast in part because I was able to have sit down time with Lisa Nichols! I have followed her on Social Media, joined her email list, participated in webinars and her latest venture (Act Like A Success) with Steve Harvey. When I was told I would have a few minutes to chat with her, I really got nervous. It was a good nervous though. She was so warm and genuine, so it was easy to sit and listen to her tell me about what she is currently working on.

Who is Lisa Nichols? She is CEO of Motivating the Masses, one of the top training and development companies in the world, a best-selling author of 6 books and one of the most sought after transformational speakers whose global platform has reached and served millions. Her featured teacher role in the self-development movie and phenomenon, The Secret catapulted her popularity across the globe.

My Black is Beautiful: Procter & Gamble hosted a private dinner for My Black is Beautiful at the Gem Saloon at Essence 2014. The event was hosted by Ms. Lisa Nichols and we were able to meet the lovely new 6 My Black is Beautiful Ambassadors. WE TV stars – The Braxtons also attended and gave us details about their new partnership with Gain detergent. (Stay tuned for The Braxton post here on BernettaStyle.com)

We were able to hear music by Mali, as he performed “Beautiful” from his latest project “Mali is…” as we dined and enjoyed conversations. You left this event feeling empowered about who you are and not afraid to let your light shine brighter.  Ms. Nichols shared why her involvement with MBIB is important and read us a poem she had written for the occasion (see the video below to hear her read the poem).

BS: I had to ask, what is the easiest way to start mediation? LN: Be still, take deep breaths and get very comfortable. Ask yourself, “What’s the visual that helps me relax?” For me it’s the ocean. Allow your mind to go and invite it back. Don’t beat yourself up. If you get in 3 minutes, celebrate those 3 minutes. It will soon grow to 6 minutes.

Your mind will go away to “I need to do the laundry” then just tell it, “Thank You.” The grace and ease of discipline comes with the release. Thank you for the visual now let’s go back. Walk back to the ocean, grass or wherever that place is. You might see something else that pops up to distract you, say Thank You and go back.

The first time I meditated I did 3 minutes. That’s all I could do. Now I can do 20 minutes. You can mediate everywhere; walking, shower, bed, couch, plane (when the plane takes off, I will mediate all they way up to 10,000 feet.)

BS: Tell Us About Your New Venture with Steve Harvey  LN: Act Like A Success is our live 10 city tour – We are teaching people how to jump into their future. In addition to the tour, we will have the Breakthrough with Lisa Nichols on his TV/Radio show – We are going to learn, what does it take to get to your best breakthrough? How does someone register or get the opportunity to work with you: go to ActLikeASuccess.com and register, call into the radio show or attend a taping of the Steve Harvey Show.

I want you to also realize that when I coach one, I am coaching many. So you are getting coached each time I am on. My best breakthrough coaching that I received was a result of someone else’s question. Everything we are doing is about creating breakthrough, creating quantum leaps for people and we are there to help them jump.

I’ve heard Steve Harvey rave about her and your interview just confirmed that.
My meditation attempts never lasted more than a few seconds. I always have things running through my mind.
Thanks for the in-depth interview and reminding me to follow Lisa Nichols’ work.
