Last Friday, I was invited to Turner Field to have dinner with Disney. Can you believe I have lived in Atlanta almost 14 years and have never been to Turner Field! This evening was less about baseball and more about Disney’s love for all sports! Our reception was held in the SunTrust Club room (Home of the Atlanta Braves). We got to mix and mingle while our meal was being prepared with other local Bloggers, Media and my favorite – Mickey & Minnie!

This night I learned first hand how Disney loves and appreciates the Team Mom! They understand how important it is to take care of our precious athletes and they make it fun while doing it. Disney brought their team of experts to explain how Run Disney runs & operates in addition to a surprise celebrity sports guest! Our host for the evening was Michael Cain (ESPN Commentator & Sports Event Manager at ESPNWWOS). He told us how he didn’t have TV experience before he was given his job, but a great opportunity presented itself. That’s what I need – A GREAT OPPORTUNITY!!

Tina Trybus, Marketing Area Manager for Disney Sports Attractions explained:

  1. You can create a family vacation and attend your child’s sporting event at the same time. Disney understands that when children compete in competitions, there is often downtime in between games or matches. They allow you to enjoy the park and amenities when you are not competing!
  2. ESPN Wide World of Sports!! I didn’t know that ESPN had a partnership with Disney until Friday night. They have actually been at Disney since 1997! They host over 350 sporting events a year and have allowed at least 70 + sports to compete at this 255 acre sports complex.
  3. Disney Sports Solution Program – designed to help coaches, parents and athletes in fundraising, food boxes, transportation, equipment drop off and more. They really try to make this experience easy, fun and memorable.

Our Celebrity Sports Super Star Surprise Guest…… say that 4 times fast!! It was Mr. Warrick Dunn, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons & Tampa Bay Bucks. He shared memories of his mother’s dedication to him and his siblings growing up. He told us how his mother was a TEAM MOM and because of what she taught him, he is the man he is today.

I felt crazy! Crazy that I didn’t know Disney was so involved in Sports. My children play sports but are really just getting involved and haven’t had to travel yet. As they hone their skills and travel becomes obvious, Disney & ESPN will now be on my radar! My nephew actually competed at Disney this year for a track & field competition but I had no idea they were at such a posh complex! There is so much more to Disney than just the amusement parks and that’s great to know. Check out their site and info and let yourself be amazed!!
