Easter Egg Roll Social at The White House {My Recap}

1958111_10202818344453225_7076403997169727772_nDing! Goes the sound of my phone as an email comes through. “You have been invited to the White House Easter Egg Roll Social” Now RSVP in less than 24 hours! Yes, I have less than 24 to RSVP and actually just a few days to really decide if I can make this trip.

Financially, traveling to Washington D.C. in 3 days notice wasn’t the easiest thing to do but friendships are a beautiful thing. I had friends that basically “sponsored” this trip with different contributions and I am so appreciative. They wanted me to experience being at the White House reporting on the Easter Egg Roll.

Β  White house Easter egg roll_bernettastyle.comWhat is the Easter Egg Roll 2014? April 21, 2014, the First Family hosted the 136th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. This year’s theme was “Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape” Every year, more than 30,000 people come across the South Lawn over the course of 12 hours. The event has live music, cooking stations, storytelling, sports activities, exercise opportunities, and the main attraction – The Egg Roll.

White House 1Why was I invited? I was invited as part of the White House Social Team, which means I was supposed to Tweet & Instagram what was happening LIVE at the actual event. I am not sure how many other Social Media Influencers were selected because we all blended in with the regular attendees.

WHite House 3Did I meet The President & First Lady? I wish. Meeting President & First Lady Obama is actually on my vision board. I did not get to actually speak to them, but they were literally 15 feet away from me. If I would have yelled their name, they would have heard me. So, although I didn’t “meet” them. I was in the “same room” so to speak as them and who gets that close! Not many, so I will check that off as an accomplishment.

Did you get to go inside the White House? Again, I wish! From what I have learned, when they have other social events, they usually do get to go inside to have a briefing or tour depending on the subject of their visit. Since this was an outside event with over 2ooo people coming and going every 2 hours – I didn’t get to go inside this time.

Where did you stay? My hotel was actually 1 block from the White House and only 5 miles from the airport. Too good to be true! Β Would you do it again if they offered? Do you really need an answer to that question?

Enough already, show us some more pictures! Well here ya go! WH 5WH 6WH 11WH 7WH 8WH 10WH 12WH 9 As you can see, there was a lot going on at the same time. If you ever have a chance to attend with your family, it’s a great thing to experience. I feel blessed I was able to take my family last year and attend this year for the social. So happy you got the chance to go and represent on social media! The First Lady does such a great job with highlighting healthy eating, great to keep the theme going! It’s so important!
